Greetings to one and all! I'm Mercedes, and as you can probably tell by my tag, I'm from Orange County Ca. I know it's probablly odd for some, but this ain't your parents OC and I think there are more of us here than is known. If there's anyone in the OC, LA area-or anywhere else- that would like to chat, I'll be more than glad to do so. Just be sure to tell me a little about yourself and where you're from. Hope to hear from you soon!
It means "hello my friend." I have been taking latin now for like five years. I really like it. To me it is pretty cool to be reading stuff that people wrote over two thousand years ago. A few years ago I read the only first hand account of the eruption of mount Vesuvius by Pliny the Younger. Right now I am reading some poems by a guy names Catullus. He is really perverted and uses latin profanity all the time which is pretty neat because I get to use all those good perverted and profane words in class when we translate.
What are you into MBintheOC. any dead languages in your past or future. If not I don't blame you. they are dead for a reason.
Unfortunatly not. All I gots is English and my family speaks Spanish. I'm takimg a class to learn Workplace spanish too. As far as what I'm into, music, writing and reading. TV too. What about you?
Yeah I can definately dig the reading. I am really into philosophy and other such things right now, but I will read just about anything. I am going to be an english major at the university of Illinois. Right now I am undecided but that is what I am switching to. What kind of music are you into? I will listen to just about anything really, It is all pretty cool. I am also into playing music too. I don't play anything really rock and roll, just a little bit of harmonica, but I really like playing my tuba. It can be quite a rush.
It's cool that you speak spanish too. Sometimes I regret not learning a language that can be currently spoken, but hey I there is always time. You said you were taking workplace spanish, what is that like? Do you use spanish a lot at your work?
I live music, so get ready for the long list: Doors Led Zepplin Rolling Stones Jefferson Airplane Janis Joplin Pink Floyd/Syd Barrett Interpol The Thrills Rooney Phantom Planet Jimi Hendrix Canned Heat The Band Songs usually played on oldies stations Three most would most likely consider lame but...Hanson (hey, I've liked them since I was 15 & a half), Ben Jelen, Gavin GeGraw (he's the fellow who sings the theme for 1 tree hill-my 11 yr old sister likes that show) By now I'm sure u get the idea. What about you?
Workplace Spanish is like what u would learn normaly, but it's mostly what you'd hear in the workplace I guess. I'm currently unemployed, but I live in southern Ca, and around here they use a lot of Spanish. I like my little icon thingy. It looks a lot like me (hehehe)
Yeah I am definately a fan of most of the bands you mentioned. My room mate is a fan of interpol and I like what I have heard so far from them. I really like the grateful dead though. Also some blues stuff like John Lee Hooker. Or even like ethnic music. I really like that stuff. As for hansen that is cool, whatever your thing is. I actually met hansen once. I was in fifth grade and we were flying to Oklahoma City and they were in the row right in front of us. I didn't know who they even where at the time so It didn't matter that much to me.
What kind of books are you into? I really like to read and try to do so as much as I can. I can relate to being unemployed, That is usually how I live out most of my existence. The goal is never to have to work, just do something I like and as a bonus get paid for it. I tell everybody here that I am going to live in one of those old abandonded houses you see by the road and grow potatoes, which is kind of a way of saying I want to be a writer.
Haha.Potatoes. That's Soo cool about Hanson. I gave up trying to meet them long ago. I met Ben, Gavin and The Thrills, but I'm most proud of meetig Ray & Robby from The Doors. There's a dj I listen to named Jim Ladd who every once & a while has bands of that caliber do what's called "Jim Ladd's Living Room". On Sep. 3, '02, it was The Doors of the 21st Century. I actually won, but I ended up missing the show. I waited 2 hrs afterwards, & they came out. I have Robby's autograph framed on a table in my room. I love writing too. I wrote my 1st little story when I was 10, now I have a few, but I never finish. I've been writing poetry since I was 16. I just put one in the writing section here. Read if u dare (hehehe)
Hi there MBintheOC, How ya doing? I just found this site and got myself signed up and you were the first message I saw on the forums. I'm wondering if you recieved this and if so, maybe you wanna shoot the breeze with a guy from England sometime (That's me!)
I could really make this totally cool reply in Spanish, but I don't speak Spanish so forgive me if I don't. Hello, welcome and enjoy the site.
