someone mentioned AAAAAAAAGES ago that they use modelling clay to make beads.. so..

what clay do you use (fimo?)
do you bake them in the oven
    do they last well
how do you make them (round a pen or something?)

    im feeling creative =D

its easy, get fimo and blend the colours or make patterns and then cook for 10 mins.
You can varnish if you like after too.
They dont ever go wrong as they look cool no matter what.

    Yea twas me xD

    I did use fimo

They do last very well if you get the thickness of the bead right ^^ I'm still using some I made 6 or so months ago :) Its so cheap and you only use a little bit you can just keep on making them :)

I have a little clay tool, its metal, the handle is 5mm and then theres a little 3cm 2mm bit at the end. I get a pea sized ball of fimo, put the too in the middle and push so its halfway down the thin bit and sorta roll it along my laptop surface (cus its smooth xD) You could use a pin or something, or an embroidery needle

Yea you stick em in the oven, on a baking tray, 110 degrees for 30 mins, no more no less of either, if you cook them for too long or on a higher temp the fimo releases poisonous gases >< After you take them out they will still feel like you've just made them but if you leave them to cool they will harden :) I just forget about them for another half or or something and leave them till they are cold so I can use them straight away ^^

Iiiiiii also wanna try making beads with proper clay, the earthy stuff :D I'll try the week after next... Stick some pretty glazes on... Mmm ^^

lol thoes are cool id get the feather, and terra dots.... thoes look cool.
ive made beads a long time ago not really for dreads but they could deffinatley be used for that. they were like oven bake clay for some craft kit. i used a pen body to make the holes and you can use that to make bigger holes too.

when the clay is soft, can you put things in it? embed (sp?) beads or summat

Yea you take it out so you can make more :D if you roll the hole till its about 5mm it should fit around small med dreads :)

How do you mean put things in it? you can mix different colours before you roll the clay into a bead.. Not sure how you means :D

No it doesn't shrink :) Just make sure you wait till its cold till you touch it after you take it out of the oven, its like it doesn't set till its cold ^^

Just press them in before cooking.

you could probably paint em with acrylic paint. idk if it would wash off or not, but you could put a coat of polyurethane or some type of clear finish on there to make it waterproof.

Yea acrylic would work, but you'd have to do it after they've been baked, and it may scratch off... You can get varnishes from the fimo people on ebay somewhere :D

i knew some masters at fimo beads
1 bead he made for me had a tiny mthe size of your pinky nail..and on the guys pants were intricate patches with peace signs and mandalas that seemed impossibly small
theres no need to paint the beads if u learnhj to work the clay and create the color patterns u like
the guy okn that bead also had dreads, that were bairly the thickness of a needle
ive never seen work so intricate and so tiny
    odviosly he had skills
but its not at all hard todo lil less intricate work
fimo is fun to work with
