Ehh, Got a BIG buildup of wax in one of my dreads, i stopped using wax months ago and it still there -_-, Know how to get rid of it anyone?
see the sticky two threads up from this one? Wax removal in brackets? Have a read, but generally if you can, soak it in boiling water, it's heat that removes wax generally, rather than anything else
Hey, just seen your pics on the meet and greet sticky, it's a bit hard to tell from the pics, but they don't look too overwaxed, might be a little short to soak with boiling water though, if you do be very careful. Otherwise continued washing will hopefully remove it over time. Good luck
yes be very careful if putting in boiling water-OUCH! don't want any accidents EEEK. Anyway, what kind of wax did you use? If it's beeswax, you realli have to scrape as much out as you can. The wax removal thread is great though
Borax-beeswax emulsion is a base for many natural hand creams, so I think it's safe to assume borax is pretty good at emulsifying beeswax in water.
never thought of that, but good possibility orasnge oil also is used to dissolve things as nasty as glue and tar, so figure that would dissolve wax too beeswax needs 140 f to melt boiling is 220 (right?) so is well above what u need 140 is still in the scold range though if your not carefull, but would requitre lil time to do dammage where 220 would blister instantly id use a meat thermometer make suree3 the waters bout 145 dip a dread in squeeze it out with something absorbant..paper towl or something repeat the stuff in the cores hard to get at though, so thats where u wanna soak in something that will dissolve it or break it down (i saw the pics and thought they did look lil waxy, not visibly caked, but could tell by thre stiffness that the core held alot) if yiou came here in the 1st couple weeks i would suggest combing it out making sure u were wax fre then starting over, just cause it is kinda hard to get at the buildup in the core but a few months in and well developed u can just do all u can to get it out...and then go on doing it awhile after u think its all gone just to be somewhat sure
i was watching a programme called How Clean Is Your House?, and the lady was telling the other lady how to cut through the grease around the wash basin, and she said 'ive got a bowl of water, some bicarb of soda and some pure orange oil...' and my first thought was omg, shes been talking to SE =|
Sooner or later these dread wax companies are gonna get lawsuits from people scalding their scalp in an effort to boil the wax out.
