    Ugh

As a Biologist, threads like these make me do a face-palm.

I think it's actually quite heartening, that the thread has had the exact opposite effect to that intended by the one who started it.

If evolution is real and plausible then why don't monkies today evolve and walk out of the forest at random becoming human beings.

That's not even remotely close to what evolution refers to.

Perhaps I am ignorant but if evolution does not teach that we are decended from monkies then why was I taught that in school?

We're descended from apes, not monkeys.

This web site is a good starting point:
    http://www.talkorigins.org/origins/faqs-qa.html

Also, any book by Richard Dawkins (especially The Selfish Gene) will help. The Selfish Gene is found in nearly any/every bookstore, and explains basics of reproduction, DNA, and what happens as a result.

If you understand evolution, you can't possibly fail to believe in it. It's little more than direct observation and an assertion that "what is, in fact, is."
