Hi Folks, In a weeks time i will be learning the technique, can you tell me what to expect? Im a kind of guy who has always bottled up my emotions and gets stressed to often, not angry stressed, more depressed stressed
I do TM, and have done it for 25 years. It's a good technique. The TM Movement is sort of hokey, but the original technique is pretty faultless.
I would advise...stay away from meditation for now and take long walks. Like two hours and longer. Worry about meditation after you've incorporated that into your repertoire of things to do in your free time.
I would advise the opposite, as there is never a better time for self awareness than the present. If TM is your key then it's best to start as early as possible. There is never a time when improved awareness is not a blessing. There is not a place where meditation cannot be practiced, nor a time. So one should strive to learn this mode of being. As it can always and everywhere serve one. Meditation is the practice of a lifetime. It can be practiced on ones deathbed. However, it cannot be started on ones deathbed. Walking can be meditation and walking is really good for one. I almost can say yes, good advice, except for the fact that walking alone isn't meditation as the mind can be completely wild the whole walk. One should never ignore something which reconnects one within. I will never regret the thousands of bucks I spent on TM and advanced tecnhiques. Nonetheless, as a young person I do also recommend you use your body and mind since they are flexible now, and will not be as much so as you get older. The essence of wisdom is appreciating ones precious little time here on Earth while one yet exists. TM is good. TM Movement is new-fundamental-Hinduism. With a cultish angle. I have never hidden my experiences with TM and a search through my posts in this and Hinduism/Buddhism forums here and Meditation will lead to many thoughts on the subject. I now combine systems. I have combined Vedic and Tantric Hinduism and Vajrayana Buddhism. I would recommend the same to any seeker eventually, but as I did I would also recommend practicing TM because it just simply works, is easy, uses the principle of increasing charm of the mind to capture inner alertness within. TM uses Shakti mantras and is a kundalini releasing technique. I just did it and it still worked for me, some 20 years after I learned it. Respiration decreases to almost none. Mind is silent, aware, full of feeling of potential, fear dissolves. One rests and comes forth refreshed and ready to do life all over again. The die daily thing. One comes back refreshed, which keeps life fresh. People who meditate not, who have never done TM, etc, shouldn't even offer advice, no? What is their motive? I can tell you that I chose TM when I was fifteen because the people seemed sort of more normal than I had seen in other cults. And being from California I had seen some cults even by that time. I was lucky to find one small pearl like TM in a sea of occult nonsense. I graduated Maharishi University in the 80s. We were a small eclectic group of meditators who believed we could sit in a group and raise planetary awareness. A small group of 2,000 TMers. Nothing else could be like that. Meditation in groups of 2,000. Was really great in the 80s. Not sure what that school is like now. Back then I had really great liberal arts teachers. But I think they have all left. Site of the famous hippie college known as Parsons. Okay Ciao.
I have not been following TM keenly but I did know about it a little bit from my years in transformation movement. I don't think TM is all about money. The core movement at least. There are some followers who abuse TM name actually. The same thing happened to a lot of transformational group who are doing well. Their basis is solid. Find a balance between mind and body, you will accelerate self healing process. This connection is proven in a lot of scientific studies. Plus, the main TM organization always advocate teaching its followers according to 7 step procedures. This will start with 2 introductory lessons and personal interview to see whether TM can help the person or not. The person can walk away if he/she cannot see the benefit of the 1st two lessons. This what make be believe that they are not about money. But of course, they will need a little money to spread their teaching. This is the same for other organization too. Best Regards Jenny
I have a very busy schedule and your advising me to take 2 hour long walks lol, ill barely get time to fit in TM but hey
is there anyway you can learn Transcendental Meditation without a teacher, by teaching yourself from say off the internet?
wow, this is a great website for learning TM. http://www.meditationiseasy.com/mCorner/techniques/index.htm
hey, great link! i too am trying to get started on meditating and hopefully this will help me choose the right path for me. Peace and love.
Yeah, that's abummer and lots of TM teachers left TM Movement when the money issue went crazy. Therefore there are renegade TM teachers who still teach for little cost. Go to the the Yahoo Group Fairfield Life and they can tell you cheaper teachers.
Another technique is Surat Shabd Yoga - Sant Mat, or meditation on the inner light and sound currents. It's free.
