Hi all. ,I had some candles about four years ago and they went the way of all candlesticks. But I've got some fuzzlocks back combed in about two weeks ago by my loving friends that are rubberbanded and seem to be keepin it real. The ones in back have one aplication of wax before i came across these forums, but the rest are only backcombed tightly, with rubberbands holding them apart.

Now my question, if clean hair knots best(correct me if im wrong) wouldnt washing your hair everyday be the best for forming knots?

Just wash your hair whenever you naturally feel like it needs washing. Yeh washing does help knotting, but if your natural routine is a couple of times a week just stick with that. Dunno...excessive washing may lead to other problems...? See what everyone else says :p

id say take out the bands, and maybe wash 2 or 3 times a week, not everyday (for now)

Washing your hair everyday will counter-productive. Every time you wash you are stripping all the oil from your scalp causing your scalp to produce more. With dreads you really want to wash them once a week on average depending on lifestyle, hair type, and personal preference. Really wash when they are dirty. I go anywhere from 5-14 days without washing, it just depends. But you gradually want to reduce the frequency of washing so you can easily go a week without a wash and your hair will still be clean. Your head will adjust its oil production over time if you regulate the washing. Plus when your dreads get long and tight they take forever to dry. You really don't need to or should want to wash your hair everyday regardless...It's just not that good for it.

Thanks for all the speedy informative replys. I was just curious about the washing everday thing, my hair stays pretty oil free after a week, especially because of this evil liver starving acne med im on, it kills like all oil production.

I think it's more important that you take out those bands. Those things rip hair like crazy and I promise if you leave them in they will either get stuck and turn to goo that you will never be able to get out or if you change them regularly you will have so many broken hairs at the roots. Learn from my experience, don't use bands. They don't do anything to help the hair lock together.

Hey I know it's off-topic, but at least it's still concerning the original poster so...
Regarding your acne... I used to have acne too. Presumably if you are on hardcore pills then you've already tried a load of other stuff? For several years I used a topical solution called Dalacin, which was like my liquid gold; if I went without it for even a day the spots would come back. Some time in my early twenties I changed my face creams and wash routines from typical high-street brands to Neals Yard Remedies, which is all natural ingredients etc, and almost immediately I no longer needed to use my acne treatment. I guess you've been told about dietary stuff too...plenty of zinc. Another thing that really helps is suncream, because it has a lot of zinc in. I use Neals Yard lavender sunscreen daily over my moisturiser as my spot-prevention, and it works great.

So yeah...sorry it wasn't about your dreads :) Maybe of some use still.

yeah, I've had alot of stuff, I started with alcohol wipes, then tried pro-active I had some prescription creams for a while, then went on to antibiotics, and now my current stuff (acutane). Its not like an all over acne attack, just like big stubborn ones keep popin up. My diet is as heathy as i can, uvo-lacto vegie, lots of fruits and nuts mixed in with the ocasional soy protein , or tofu. I hadnt heard about the zinc thing, tho. And would neals yard be the kinda thing i could just grab at a healthfood type store. Cuz right now im using this soap and muisturizer called cera ve, recamended by my dermtgist but he says anykind will work, so i could switch it up, and hit my ance with the combo move.

It's a UK company but here's their USA site: http://www.nyrusa.com/
All their products are amazing, but you could send them an email describing your skin and see if they recommend anything.
Also, letting your skin become too dry can worsen spots. Even though I'm prone to forehead grease and the whole t-zone thing, I still moisturise thoroughly all over.

I want to, cuz they look so unnatural, but the hair at the ends hasnt knotted at all:( plus i still have some dhhq related fear that they will all unknot if i take them out before the tips are together.

Ok, I'm going to chime in here with what I think :p Firstly I'd take out the bands if I were you, they're hard to keep track of and could/probably cause trouble later on if you forget to remove some. I know it's difficult at first when you take them out and it seems like everything starts to fall apart, but that won't really happen too much.

Secondly I would not advise washing everyday, if you do start doing that your scalp will go into oil production overdrive. Whilst you might be able to get away with this whilst your dreads are young, once they get longer and more mature, they tighten up a lot more and take a lot longer to dry, and it's generally a pain to wash them. It just becomes impractical really to wash them too frequently, also it's not really necessary, they'll stay fine and clean if you wash them once a week. It's more the scalp that needs to be cleaned than the hair, so if you can work it to roughly once a week it should be fine.

They will loosen a bit when you take the bands out, but they won't magically unravel just like that, and ultimately the increased freedom to move will speed up knot formation :)

I actually kept bands at my roots for quite a while and did find them helpful because I got sick of separating the dreads away from each other. I know we're all very anti that kind of thing though :p As a better alternative, maybe just tie a little twine at the base if it would make you feel better. You don't even need to do every single one; alternate dreads is enough. If you're only picky about it for the sake of appearance, just doing the top layer will be fine and let the underneath ones do their thing.

Or just leave the whole lot alone, like most people will say :) Just giving suggestions incase you don't feel that leaving them alone is an option.

Thanks, im having a friend over in a lil bit to back comb the last six or so up front, and ill ask him to cut a few bands out.
Thank you, i love your dreads, they look so nice. Esp in that scanned pic in the other thread. I think the front was about 4.5 and the back was around 3, alot of the short ones in back are as long as they are wide and very loose, i tried to get a picture of one of the lil fellas but none of them turned out:confused:

    ok heres my input
    remove all bands imediately
    2nd
like it wass said washing daily will increase oil production
    plus
dreads are a combination of movement and compression.
washing will give clean hair and movement, but withiout several days of compression (sleeping on em, putting em in hats andso forth) the movement alone can unravel as much as knot, its best to give em a few days at least to settle in..before washing again.

    now, the acne
    teatree oil
put a few drops on a scrubby pad or gause, rub your face well ity will kill the germsm and clean it very well
in between put a drop on your zit to help dry it oput and kill the bacteria,

    if that dont work try
google homeopathic acne treatments and do some reasearch
homeopathics are 100% safe with zero side effects or interactions with other drugs, work nearly instantly
the only drawback is it may be lil hard to pinpoint the exact formula that works best for you.
generaly they are very inexpensive though. so trial and error therapies are no problemm.
try 1 formula for awhike if no results try another

or u can see a homeopathic dr to try to get it right the 1st time.

they can work miraculously (i saw a baby with a severe rash covering 90% of its body take a single dose and the rash vannished completly in 2 minutes flat)

typicaly u may not see results with the very 1st dose, but by the 3rd dose u should. then after that any breakouts will disapear in the time it takes the homeopathics to disolve under your tongue.

i used them to quite smoking after 30 years smoking, and it was the easiest thing in the world to do since all cravings and withdraw symptoms vannished in seconds.

goodluck and get the bands out

tea tree oil is a miracle for face spots.

all I ever use on my face anymore is witch hazel, tea tree oil, and a light moisturizer, and honestly my skin is damn near perfect.
