ok, not to sound racist or anything, but like how come black people like get this so called "black history month" in february, but white people don't have any month like that? that's bullcrap in a bucket if you ask me, I think whites need our own month too.
Shut up, it isn't racist per se, but it is ignorant and closed-minded. I hate when people come up with stuff like this. Whites don't need shit right now - comparatively speaking. I highly doubt you even sit and think about what black history month even means to some people...
How would we celebrate white history month anyway? Out of the long span of white people there have only been a couple interesting people. Fuck it, doesn't bother me
Black history month was started to give black people a little pride about themselves in a white man's world. One that oppressed them without mercy. It's still a white man's world. Oppression is still here. Black history month isn't the problem. x
cry me a river, wheres Jewish history month, or Armenian history month, or Irish indentured servitude history month, etc, etc
Actually, we already have 12 white history months. Black history month isn't even an official reality yet-- just a suggestion. The difference is that white history is so ingrained into every single institution in the west that we don't even realize it's all white history, told from a white perspective. On the other hand, it makes sense... because, well, we're the majority, we created the government, the politics, the rights and privileges, the buildings, the infrastructure... and set the rules from the very beginning... and like every other country in every other part of the world, being in power gives us the ability to set our own school curriculum. Is it the right thing to do? Well, that's a question without an answer. This whole heterogeneous society concept is a relatively new thing... like it or not, white Western European society is blazing trails in terms of multiculturalism and tolerance. I can't think of another society in history that actually willfully dedicated its own resources to the needs of other cultures/ethnic groups/minorities. There's definitely very few other societies in the world where the majority accommodates other cultures from a position of power. But white guilt has created something very interesting, to say the least... And really, black history definitely relates to American history enough for it to be relevant to understanding the national psyche... to go without it would be to ignore a pretty valid part of history. The same goes for Native American history, but to a lesser extent... as that culture is far less (visibly) integrated with our current society.
"Out of the long span of white people there have only been a couple interesting people." You must be joking, right??? Western European culture has had the biggest influence on global culture. Off the top of my head: Mozart Shakespeare Edison Bach Da Vinci Einstein Plato Socrates Columbus Magellan The Beatles Gutenberg Kafka etc., etc.,etc... not to mention the people who weren't originally Western but achieved their greatest successes within Western culture/society.
Yeah... and you know what? What's up with BET anyway? WTF right? I mean, the fact that BET started because MTV wouldn't show any music videos from black artists back in the day is beside the point. Or that virtually the entire television is aimed toward middle aged white women, how dare their be any channels devoted to african american entertainment? Also, I think white people should be able to say nigga right? I mean, what gives. Nevermind the fact that it doesn't make any sense for white people to call each other nigga any more than it makes sense for black people to call each other cracker. That would be fucking stupid. We shouldn't consider that black people calling each other nigga is a form of empowerment - taking a racial slur and turning it to mean nothing more than 'dude' is pretty impressive. But I'm white and am not satisfied that people can do something I can't, so I want to say nigga too. Even if it makes no sense. While we're at it, how come their isn't a Martin Luther King Jr. day for white people? It's really not fair that one of the greatest secular saints of the 20th century is a champion for something of which I am not a part. Maybe the day after Martin Luther King day we should have Nathan Bedford Forrest day, and we can all put pillow sheets on our heads and hoot n' holler like a bunch of backwoods savages. Can I get an amen?
*sigh* 9/10 of history taught in school is about white people and what they did. a white history month would be redundant. i wouldn't mind all the other ethnicities getting their own focus months, too, though. that would be nice.
I think black history should be erased, we don't need a white history month NOR black history month. Last year we had to do a paper for black history month, I had a discussion with my teacher and told him "I'm not writting about some ******, why not write about MY history?" He completly understood and I got an A without doing it. No I'm not racist but I view it as racist to look into others history before your own, i'd rather write a paper on white history before writting about black history because black history means jack shit to me.
A white mans world? Yet there are more black/dark skinned folk in the world than white people? The white race makes up 8% of the world, how the fuck you gonna say this is a white mans world? Either way, racism is annoying. Expecially when I'm supposedly living in a white mans world and still getting treated like 2nd grade shit by everyone for my skin color.
the bolded bits always make me laugh. black history IS your history. people are people. frankly i'm tired of hearing about all the same ol' dusty white guys.
I know I know, & yes I can say ****** without being racist, just like all my black friends say cracker. I get what you're saying but there is still a lot of white history that could be covered that isn't, maybe we should have a choice through grade school and so on?
i think that if you did in fact study more history than just farty old white guys that we're all kinda sick of hearing about, you'll find a whole lot of FUCKING FASCINATING stuff. and i don't mean the biggies, like the egyptians, incans and such. i mean the more interesting obscure ones. it's really really interesting.
I'm sure, but I'm not getting sick of hearing about some of those farty old white guys, considering they did give america a lot but I'm not saying any other race didn't give me just as much...just saying..
lol, well I'm racist to a POINT, everyone is actually. If someone dislikes racists, then well that is racist. lol Racism is EVVVERRRRY where bro.
