Alright Im writting a college paper on this... Lets get a discussion on Euthanasia.
For those who have never heard it Euthanasia is killing someone that has reached the point of life that is no longer living, because there is too much pain. This also doesnt have to be on an older person. There was a case that they did it to a very malformed baby that only had acouple days to live. Or people that are brain dead. etc.
    2 types
Passive euthanasia- The doctor has no action in saving the patient, they pull the life support and let the die slowly
Active Euthanasia- The doctor preforms a lethal injection on the patient, they die very fast and painlessly

Do you think someone has the right to die in either Passive or Active euthanasia if they think their in so much pain they don't want to live anymore. Or do you believe miracles happen, maybe they'll come out of it. All life is precious.

    btw, i know i can't spell.
RULE: Just respect people's opinion on this, lets not get into a battle. I just think all of you are really open minded people.

yes, who the hell would want to live in pain and be a veritable all their life, if it is a fact that the person is in a lot of pain, i would inject them.

Oh i forgot to mention Active Euthanasia is Illegal. and im a big supporter of it. People have the right to deside for themselves when it's their time to go. They also shouldnt have to go through the torture of pulling the plug, it should be fast and painless by lethal injection.
How does the goverment have the right to tell a terminally ill person, that can't function on their own, they can't die?

It depends on the situation. I think it really comes down to the family making the choice, , so im agaisnt any kind of law that prohibits it, while i personally make every attempt not to destroy life in all its forms. And heres a thought, maybe vegetables don't want to live as vegetables anymore then humans do. or Maybe being "braindead" is a peacful and holy state?

I am fully in support of euthanasia. I'm for assisted suicide too. You have a choice. Its your life: It is riducolous that the law is dictating to us we can't have a choice in our own mortality.

Its a horrible thought, but if I were in alot of pain, and felt that I had lived my life as full as I could have, and I knew it was terminal, There would be no hope, I wouldn't want to stick around. If there was some sort of hope then maybe I'd stay on.

As I said above, I hate how the law is agaisnt us having a say and action in our own mortality. I heard it was illegal to commit suicide... Wtf?! Its riduculous, I really want to swear but then I'd rant on forever :p

    Society is fegged up.

Nah, never xD Government would never allow it, Catholics will never allow it. Would be too easy, government won't be able to control it, might just end up ruining humanity lol

I believe they won't allow it because there is too much money when someone is real close to death. All the medicine theyre on is extremely expansive and the hospital stay bills, all that jazz. Along with religous people saying life is precious no matter how bad it is, but they arn't the ones in pain. Just wanting to have control over someone's life.... Not claiming all religous people are like that just some can be.

I'm fully against euthanasia and / or assisted suicide.

First off it's a "foot in the door" as far as cheapening human life is concerned, it's only a few perfectly reasonable and "moral" steps from voluntary euthanasia to involuntary euthanasia, sterilisation, eugenics, selective breeding etc.

Secondly you have no real quantifiable way of determining if a person is compos mentis and it essentially becomes a subjective decision undertaken by some doctor as to whether this person who may be distress and in pain is capable of making such a terminal decision.

I'm sure I've got half a dozen other arguments but I can't think of them right now, just rage at me and they will pop back into my mind.

i put it in the dreadlocks forum because i like talking to you guys/gals =P
And no pypes i won't rage at you lol. Just a discussion
Im just saying if a person at his own will doesn't want to continue to live they should legally be aloud to die. Nothing of the doctor saying... "this guys screwed... guess ill have to put'em down"
People are allowed to say i don't want to be on life support systems and die. Why not help them? A girl was brain dead for idk how many years, that didn't want to ever be on life support. Her husband had a court order to cut the feeding tube and she slowly died of starvation for 17 days. when instead should could have had a lethal injection. No one knows if she can feel that pain or not... why suffer when there's an alternate route.

Sorry if you didn't want me to post this =/

tpoo often its not the person in pain or brain dead who makes the decidsion to pull the plug, often its a family member or atorney even.
the partient is deemed medicaly incapable of making decisions, and a reklative is given the right to decide for them. and believe it or not, insurance moneyh or saving on bills is the deciding factor, yes they pretend its all mercy, oh they are suffering they should be let go, but who the fuck has the right to say that but fate?
pain is pain who the fuck cares im in pain every fucking day of my life but u try taking my life from me and u got trouble
pain can be ignored it can be managed it doesnt fucking matter, but death is permenant..the end a life wasted
who knows what these people you throw away in the name of saving them from pain could accomplish if theyre just left to live thayre lives unhindered?
look at whats that dudes name, one of the most briliant men alve with ms, unable to speak trust me, hes in pain alot, but whats that matter? his ability to think to reason to solve the unsolvable questions of reality give his life purpose.
for some, just the ability to smile and cause others to smile is enough to make life worthwhile

whenever the plug is pulled..whenever the shots given, that decision is taken out of the hands of the persion dying and is made by someone else
or, sometimes its made by the person dying in a living will, that they made when perfectly heathy
they had no fucking idea how theyd feel when the momment came..maybe they never suffered a day in theyre life so the idea of antything more pasinfull then a headache makes them think they couldnt handle it and would rather die..mayne they helpd no value for theyre life at the time, but at the momment of decision, dont u truly think most would choose to live?

there was a famouse case near here, they tried proving she was braindead the family was fighting to kill her
but she had stated she wanted to live
the day they pulled her off all lufe supoet they asked her if she wanted to die she said.. i want to live
the doctors performing the euthenasia claimed that it was just noises, there was no brain activity at all sioshe couldnt have said that.
she fought on trying to live..with no water no food nothing being provided to her she died of dehydration
but lived weeks longer then should have been possible with no water.
it was odvios she wanted to live
but that choice was taken friom her
guess who signed the fiinal execution order..yup bush (im pretty sure, this happened right around when he took office)

i strongly disagree that anyone should ever have that poswer but the person themself, and then only adfter thourough counceling to rule out depression or suicidal thoughtsd as being the cause of them wanting to die.. and then, in the end, they should have to inject themself..fully knowing what they are doing.

    pain aint worth dying over
bujt life is worth living no matter how painful

    thats the girl i meant
as they pulled the feeding tube she clearly said..i want to live

17 days without water..thats pure force of will keeping her alive
without water u die in 3 days...4 max
she lived 17 days because she wanted to live so fucking badly

    that was murder
    sorry but its true

well buddy..im in alotta pain come inject me..and well you'll find out what alotta pain is
thats all i have to say to that
i love my pain as much as i love my life
it lets me know im liveing
i wont take pain meds at all why should i
but if you try taking my life you will be in a whole world of pain
then lets see wether u want to live or die
what gives u the right to decide who should live or die just cause they got a toothache or chronic migraines

what level of pain would it hage to be that yoyud deam theyre life worthless?

how many veritables (vegatables? what do u define as vegitable? mentaly retarded? paralized? unable to speak?) how manjy of these ppl do u talk to. do u ever stop to think some of emmight love theyre lives even more thgen yiou do?
they may value every thiought, every momment that may by not moving have the serenity needed to reachtransendential blisds pure meditative nirvana
yet you come along, having no experience at all with such things and decide they must have worthless lives so lets throw them away.

so should we kill the blind the deaf cause theyre lives must suck without music and art
kill the paralized cause they cant run theyre useless
kill the stupid cause if your iq isnt over 150 your just not worth feeding any more
kill anyone whos not in perrfect health cause they drive up insurance costs

your favorite football player tears a tendion so wont be able to play a few seasons, well they arent worhh keeping lets get rid of em

my point is you dont know what these people want
who wants to live like a vegatable? maybe a vegatable wants to live like a vegatable
you have no fucking experiencfe in tyhese things so you cant imagine
    but if you did
you might just find immence pleasure in simple things..sunlight on your skin the touch of a n]hand
    these things canmake life worthwhile
yet you having never had to wonder what it might be like are so fucking quick to say yup theyre worthless throw em away

ok, ill tell ya all a personal story
i broke my back 19 years ago this month.
ive been in pain ever since..who cares.
i went from a paraplefgic to quadriplegic over the next few years.
but thats getting ahead of myself.
when i broke my back, this nasty horrible doctor came in twice (vharged me a 10,000 consultation fee for this too) he never did nothing for me only came in to tell me in a mocking voice all the things id never be able to do again (most of them false)
now 2 weeks after i got out of the hospitol after all these talks about how worthless and painfull my life willl be
i climbed out of my chair and into a glider ( www.freedomswings.org ) and became the best student they had.. it was pure pure pure joy
2 months later im climbing mountsins, spending months in the wilderness loving life in eways most people, especialy that nasty assed dr could ever comprehend.
i loved my life more and more after being injured and being in pain then i everr did before..u learn to appreciate it morewhen its not so commonplasce, i truly believe that most ppl in comas, or whove suffered a great deal hold the highest value on life of all.

on the flip side is my freind kathy change ( www.kathychange.org ) and my grat uncle terrence mcsweeney (or sweeney never knew whicjh, luxi might) who both valued theyre lives so highly they gave theyre lives for change..kathy going out a blazing beacon and terrence doing the longest hunger strike in irelands history.
these wree ppl who gave theyre lives because they valued them so highly and were the only things they could possibly give that woulfd hold enough value to make a difference in theyre stru]ggles.

the whole point iof this is nobody has the right to say what life has no value
not even the person liveing the life, because thats a simple case of menbtal illness that makes them believe theyre lifes worthless
trust me i deal with that type thing alot in freinds
but should we let all oy]ur freinds kill themselves because they dont want to go to therapy or take a pill?

again ill say, unless your the 1 in pain u have no right to say pain makes life worthless
and youd realky have to be pretty waek to let pain destroy yoiur life
fuck smoke a blunt and the pains gone
    get accupunture the pains gone
u can even do self hypnosis and the pains gione
pain is nothing but signals through the nerves
    igbnore em
    they dont mean a thing

I know my opinion sounds harsh but I think if someone wants to die then let them. Whether theyre suicidal, really sick, in tremendous pain...whatever the reason. Im in favor of it from a population control /Darwin stand point. However, I do not think healthy and defenseless animals should be euthanised when there are people out there who will give them homes. Now now I know anyone who may want to retaliate against my position may say...."So what...dogs are more important than humans?" And my answer is yes. People suck.

how dyu know, ever had it?

from what ive heard/read/been told its very painful. lethal injection on death row is a very painful way to go - muscle seizures, respiritory attack etc etc. not painless at all.

and im with mandy - id much rather save an animal than save a human. im all for people killing themselves (though it does sadden me that people are allowed to get that way, and not have a way out/get the help they need.. i know because ive been there several times), and im all for assisted deaths, espesh if someone is in extreme pain.

i also think the death sentence should be brought back..

I'm 100% pro-choice of the individual. Taking away someones right to death is as immoral as taking away their right to life (and I'm not talking neo-natal here. That's a different debate entirely).

It gets a little tricky where the person involved can't express an opinion. In these cases medical justification needs to be absolutely watertight, as in cases of severe brain trauma/coning where it really is a case of lights-are-on-but-no-ones-home. A person whose brain has coned (brain stem death resulting from severe trauma) is dead, and no amount of life support is going to wake them up again. The brain cannot send messages to the body to control unconscious functions, and equally cannot receive messages back from the body. If this is the case, then the person has no chance of recovery and according to UK law, the person has died. This is my definition of a "vegetable" or being in a "vegetative state".

Where someone is suffering from a terminal illness and facing future prospects of extreme pain, loss of mobility, loss of dignity etc, and is still capable of making a rational, well-considered decision, surely their wishes must count for something? If they express a wish to die a dignified death on their own terms, who are we as a so-called "civilsed" society to deny them? Just as I, and I alone, choose my life path, I should also have the right to choose my death without fear that the love ones I leave behind will face forfeiting their freedom for assisting me.

Its a complictated issue, and I'm not entirely sure why the opinions of a bunch of dread-heads are being solicited on it, but that was my brief tuppence worth for ya.

(And to all: please, please, please don't start the whole abortion/right-to-life debate just cos I brought it up. Its messy, it get angry very quickly, it divides people, and while the debate is absolutely necessary a dreadlock forum is not the place to have it - or to have a euthanesia debate for that matter, or a pro/anti hunting, pro/anti meat etc, etc. Join a debating society, a lobby group, or an appropriate other forum if you feel you need to vent your spleen about something. Save this forum for anti/pro wax rants only!!! :p)
