Hi to all the old (and young, and young by heart) hippies on the forum and elsewhere! I was wondering, tell me about the sixties from the way you experienced it. Absolutely everything, the free love, the music, the tripping (on drugs and in a VW) and Woodstock (were you there? or did you just think you were?) Thanks a lot! Peace to everyone L_S May the Sixties live on!eace:
I was born in 1962 in West Virginia. We are always a little behind. My town was all dirt roads. We didn't get paved until the 70's. We walked about a half mile to school. (No it was not uphill both ways and we had shoes) I remember being able to go to the dimestore that was a mile away with my friends when I was 6, without my parents. You can't let a kid that young get that far away from you now. I can remember having trouble staying clean. Soda was 10 cents. The soda machine was one of the ones where you had to take the bottle through a maze kinda thing to get it out. You got a whole lunch size bag of candy for a few cents. As far as drugs go. It wasn't uncommon for a house wife to take speed in the morning to get things done. Then take nerve pills or sleeping pills to counteract the speed in the evening. (running to the shelter of mother's little helper) My mother loved the Rolling Stones and The Statler Brothers. So I had a weird kinds Acid Country upbringing.
