What is death? Whats the point of living? I ask this question- not because I am depressed, but to see what people here have to say... and please give me an honest answer... I lost someone today- actually my mom and dad lost some one very dear to them today and the person was not really old, she was in her 30s... and she died... because of an aneurysm, and its a shock, she was fine until yesterday. She used to work so hard, she was the most nicest and sweetest people i have ever seen in my short life span, I don't know what to say to them or what to think about this situation... but this question has come into my mind and left me thinking real hard all day... I am unable to even concentrate on anything else. Why do people have to die ? If people have to die, why do then we do all the things we do... why do we go after the really hot chick or that really cool car that we want? why do we even eat or drink or talk... or even get out of bed... I mean really, we will die anyway... I mean whats the point to struggle? whats the point of knowledge? whats the point of having fun? whats the point to anything? All this will end with death... whats the point?

Because WE will die too, and we might as well make the best of life before that happens. Besides, death is not a big deal. I know how much it sucks to lose somebody, but we all have to go sometime, without exception. It's something every person and every living creature must do. The point of living (while you can) is whatever you make it to be. If you follow a religion, then you already have a reason. If not, why would you fear the nothingness that is death? Are you too attatched to your material posessions? It is pretty pathetic to be unwilling to let go of life for this reason. So go ask out that hot chick and quit worrying about death. Hell, she might die the next day. You're still alive, there are still experiences to be had. Have them.

may sound like an existentialist but the goal of life is happiness.
and the way we obtain happiness is restricted by the laws (religious, moral and real laws)

I don't understand the point of death either. But I do believe in reincarnation. Therefore, ever life we learn a lesson or lessons that are predefined before we choose our birth. I don't know why we just don't live out a life that is everlasting until we understand and know all. The only real grasp I can collect on that is that the world will become over populated if we just keep living and keep having childern. I also think part of life is to have children to learn lessons and keep the world going so they can have children and keep moving forward. Again, I'm not sure why we must die, but we all do it. It will even happen to you. You must not fear it and be willing to accept it when it comes. As humans, we are meant to greave, but the pain passes. As far as why we chase girls and want nice cars, it is encripted into all humans to want to be the best we can! If not, do you think our species would be as advanced as it is? No! It's who we are, it's how we act! It's normal and shouldn't be fiered. We shouldn't make it a habit to go out and try and be better than everybody, that's one aspect of being a "hippy". We know that life is better when you are able to love who you are just as you are made! I hope this makes sence and I hope it helps!

    <center> peace and plur

Heh, death is the natural conclusion of life. And life...life has no point, which is what is so great bout it.

Hi, Sorry i took a little time off of the "internet" to do some self thinking...

but anyway, I felt so empty when I was posting it as if whatever she did was almost meaningless in her life... but I see its not now after a little thinking. I mean, even though all her hard work is basically a waste, people remember her like the most loving person there was. I do too, so I am okay now.

I guess we have to live because thats what we are made to do... just live and keep the species alive... then again I believe that there is a higher cause to all this, that reality is something that is more personal than anything else I guess.

Anyway, thank you for your posts, I noticed how opinionated my views are after I saw yours .. lol

Death is just the conclusion of life in general, the point of life is to live a life like Jesus which is clean and pure, with faith.

She sounds so wonderful, that really makes it hard to accept. A Christian friend offered this. " She had to go, God just could not bear another minute without her." I like that. I keep going cuz I am very curious, and all my life have been totally blown away by the surprises, some of them totally supernatural. So I strongly believe that there is some purpose to life, to yours and hers, and I also strongly believe what Chief Seattle said 150 years ago, "there is no death, only a change of worlds." If you want me to I can email you a story of a miracle I witnessed at a funeral, the only funeral I have ever been to. It was quite the 'coincidence', I will say for the skeptics.

god, this question drives me crazy...my dad and i will sit for hours just thinking about it, why do we live? what are we suposed to get out of life, and living, and why? and what the point of dieing is...and where do we go... this is all what i am most interested in...truely. i find it amusing that as humans we are not suposed to know the answers to these questions.
to me, we are suposed to form our own opinons on the subject, what we as individuals believe in.
i myself, believe very much in the after life, and in reincarnation. i KNOW i have lived before, i can feel it. but as for why we live and why we die, i dont think u can ask the question without encorperating with it any and all living things, plants and animals too. why does ANYTHING for that matter, live and die? it is unexplainable, but if so, and u think there is no point, then fine, go ahead and lay in bed for the rest of ur life. but heres my question to u: why stay an in uncomfortable state, when u can have fun? dont u want to b happy? it is everyones wish to b happy...so y live unhappy? yea, ull die, but no one knows what happens after that...dont u want to know u did SOMETHING?
sorry this is so long, its a hot topic with me lol
    everyones friend,

theres alot i could say, but i have to say im a secular humanist currently in this time of my life,
i have had quite a few ppl i knew leave(i hate using the D word), it is crazy, i believe we are here to continue our species, and to pass on out of the way of younger members of our species, to continue onwards until X point in time

i dont think id like to be in the point of time where the species gets wiped out or diminished, due to whatever cause(s)

but its going to happen eventually
    somehow

    overpopulation concerns me,
    governments too,
    etc.

leaving our conscious permanently is something we all know will happen to use eventually, i dislike the thought of it, the thought of afterwards being nothingnesss just liek before being born comforts me the most

    but still.....
    time is flying,
and any day or month or year now....

Im not sure why we are here or how we got here but i believe the ultimate life goal is happiness. I mean if your filthy rich have have a shitload of stuff but mentally your unhappy you just as bad as a junky on the street. And also remember SHIT HAPPENS no ones life is perfect and everyone has problems but eventually time passes on and so does everything else.

    love/respect to all

What is space for?, think bigger here, 500 Billion galaxcies, and thee
uncountable stars ,and who knows how many planets contained within.
You may believe in God, or that we came up from ape's, but
still really think, close your eye's for a moment and think, what is
all this never ending space for, if there was a "Big Bang" where did
the one really big ass rock come from in the first place, take for a moment
the thought of no living existance, just quite round balls floating
around, with no purpose, but still, where did they come from, and why?
If we take away all the above cosmo's, and even the space in between,
what would be left?, a deafening silence? and if so, were did the silence
come from?, and if we're all alone out here in the universe, that's a hell
of alot of waste of space, and if there we're other beings, able to fly
to Earth and where ever, we'd really know it, not just sighting's.
No people! we're alone out here, and there is a higher hand involved here
pulling the strings, as in, creating!, I once sumed it up as, "In Death all
questions will be answered, Life is but the moment we have to come up
    with the questions to ask".

Sorry so long, but the topic is as vast as the space I speak of........
    I ~

one purpose of life that i have come to believe is to live in solitude, to be happy with not knowing all the answers. to be happy with what you have where you are. life is a test, every minute of the day is a test to see how you will react.

i think about all the people that said, go for that hot chick or car etc. (symbolizing material possessions and attatchments) because that is what will make you happy, and you might die tomorrow.
well i dont think those things ever make anyone happy. maybe for a while. people are so attatched to fantasy. it is ok though. that is part of the point to life, you are to realize these attatchments, and then detatch yourself from them.

Death to me is just another one of those questions that will never be answered until we experence it, theres always wonder of what life is for and why do we live if we ultimatly die at the end but thats how the cycle. For the person you lost its not who they were its what you remember and what they did during there life is what makes the person.

I really odnt know what life is or what death is. All I know is that I used to be so afraid of death, and now I'm more afraid of life. I think death is glorious. People are afraid of it, but In my opinion hell is where we are now

So true, I am absolutely thrilled that I know so little of the mysteries of life, I swear it's gonna kill me when I find out.
Life isn't what happens to us, but how we react to what happens to us.
    Happy happy joy joy

sometimes i feel like life is really all a dream. that when we go to sleep, that is when we are living. what we "dream" is really what happens when we are "awake". i bet that's really confusing. sometimes, i feel like i'm so close to understanding, i can feel everything comming full circle, and then, *zzz, zzz*pop*. i loose it.

all i can rely on is what I believe to be true.

The purpose is to leave the world a better place than you found it.
