Hey ppl. I'm new hear and i had some information that might not be on this board. I'm an 80/10/10 raw vegan which means I eat whole, ripe, raw fruits and vegies and lots of them. I eat fruit because they're a source of calories, low in fat and easily digested. They have alot of water and fiber, and apart from being good for u it means it dilutes the carbs. u need a greater volume for the same amount of calories as cooked starch and fat. So there's at least 3 reasons why a meal of fruit will last for 4 hours or more - water and fibre slow the absorption of sugar in the gut, and also slows the rate at which u can eat calories compared to cooked foods or fats. The body stores sugar. and it doesn't need to be released from foods directly to active cells. so i tend to eat 4 meals a day. i have breakfast after drinking water and doing some excercise. second meal might be 10am or later depending on when i feel hungry really. 3rd and 4th again, when i feel hungry. all of these meals are generally mono-fruit meals, with the last one mono-fruit (maybe with lettuce or celery) and then a heap of lettuce or carrots or something and maybe a source of fat like avocado. the key to success on this diet to eat less than 4 meals a day, get lots of sunshine, lots of excercise, lots of water, lots of greens, and most importantly get fat intake below 20% and even as low as 5%. Having fat in the blood stream causes havoc if you're consuming simple carbs even from fruit. Bonobo Chimpanzees eat 88% simple carbs, 7% protein, and 5% fat. They are 5 times stronger than humans per pound, so obviously they get all their amino acids. Only 1% of their calories come from animal foods. The average american eats only 42% carbs, way too much protein at 16%, and way too much fat at 42% - much of it cooked. When I switched to cooked veg I kept these same ratios, even when I went raw I stayed the same, even upped my fat because I didn't realise how much fruit I needed even to maintain 42% carbs. Now I eat over 80% carbs (80/10/10) and love it. It's so easy on the body eating a breakfast of 10 nectarines, a lunch of 10 lady finger bananas, and a dinner of more bananas and salad. I can eat the same fruits for weeks, I seem to get all my nutrients. I might be low of B12, but that's the only nutrient that might not be on/in our fruits and vegies. Btw I don't know of any long-term 811ers who havn't counted calories at some point. It's essential to lose your fear of eating a large volume of food, and to THRIVE. I know of so many athletes who eat this way. They have so much energy and recover SO quickly.
