I have the money for some 2-CE, but I'd much rather get a reliable scale first. Any tried and true recommendations? Under $100 would be great.
Under $100? I've had decent results with this scale: http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/jennings-jscale-jsvg20.aspx It has a resolution of .002 grams, there are other scales with a resolution of .001, but I've never used one that was under 100. Tanman35 also mentioned another scale a few months ago that was under 100, and he said it worked very well and also came with a pair of tweezers that he found useful. I'll see if I can find the link he posted. Edit: Here is the link where he posted about the scale. It is the Proscale Gemological 10: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=309967&highlight=proscale&f=126
Which one would you recommend? I'm thinking about the Jennings because it says it can be very useful in the laboratory.
I've heard it's one of the more reliable and durable sub $100 scales on the market. I've owned two of them (I gave one away to a friend, and a year later it's still working) and both of them have been great - for the money. Of course, you would be more satisfied in the long run with a better scale (And Id recommend you get a better one if you can afford it), but if your budget is 100, then you really cant go wrong with this scale. I do want to mention that sometimes working with a .002 scale can be kind of a pain. For example, if you weigh something that's 20mg, sometimes the scale will bounce between 18mg and 22mg... that's kinda annoying when trying to weigh something like 2c-e where the difference between 2mg can make a huge difference. To combat this, I usually reweigh the sample several times, making sure to turn on and off the scale in between measures. I also make sure to calibrate the scale each time I use it, which is easy with this scale with the included calibration weight. edit: I've never used the gemological pro 10, so I can't say which one I'd recommend.
I've been looking for a decent scale in your price range as well. If you were looking into the ProScale Gemological-10 that's been talked about in this thread, this site has it for pretty damn cheap: http://www.saveonscales.com/product_ps_precision_10.html Only thing is I've never heard or come across that site while searching for scales/recommendations in forums.
My preference: http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/my-weigh-gempro-250.aspx A little bounce (± 3mg) experienced but I seem to get perfect results given my preferred method. 1. Allow scale to warm (30 minutes) 2. Tare... wait 3 minutes... Tare 3. Weigh this: http://www.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=276508&PartnerID=FROOGLE&BannerID=PD677 ...Usually comes out to 18.331 grams - so I know if my scale is in the ballpark. 4. Next, I measure a qty (500-1000mg) and go from here to a liquid measure system. Given the larger weighed qty and the weight of the pinch bowl, I find my measurements to be about as close as I perceive "perfect". My liquid measurement is consistently 1mg substance to 5ml liquid. My liquid is typically 10/90 vodka/water as the alcohol (in my experience) ensures bacteria levels are minimized. For a 20mg dose of 2c-x, I will require 100ml of liquid. Lastly, I will mix the 100ml with crystal light or juice and voila!
Alright guys. It's that time. I need an mg scale and like the op need it to be affordable and efficient. So I resurrected this thread in hopes other people can chime in and help me with my decision. Seems like some good suggestions in here but after reading through a huge thread on bluelight, some of these scales were ripped apart on there. So far the one pedaltopedal suggested Jennings JSVG 20 and the proscale gemological that tanman and S. stoned said seem feasible (how the hell is it $20 on the site esoterric reccomended? Sounds too good to be true...) I've heard to stay away from the American Weigh scales, good advice? Someone help me. Do you have good/bad experiences with these scales? Do you have any other recommendations?
i can only comment on the proscale gemological as it is the only one i have ever worked with but i still have no problems with it and it has been very good to me
tanman is that the same exact scale that esotericcc posted? It's offered for $23 on that site. I can't believe a decent mg. scale would be that cheap...
Eh I'd be pretty weary about sub-$100 scales. They're probably not very accurate, and will end up breaking/dying after a few months most likely. I picked up this scale, best deal i've found, seems pretty good so far. And it arrived 3 days after i ordered it. http://cgi.ebay.com/20-001g-Diamond...6|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50
I have one of those cheap American Weigh scales and I know they get a lot of crap but I haven't had a problem with it. I think they are pretty safe if used with liquid measure. YMMV.
i purchased an american weigh as well and have had no issues whatsoever. this is it however i got mine on ebay for 46 bucks shipping included. some ppl say its not all that accurate but as long as u calibrate it before each use you'll be fine. i jus weighed out 12mg doses of 5 meo dmt with it tday and went very well.
