    C+.

War on drugs was declared by nixon, but not in the 60s. 1971, i believe was the year. It was supposed to be a five year war not a 37 year affair.

awesome that you know the definition of democracy, now if we lived in one, then maybe you'd have a point

The county jail here is really bad, and if you take a 20 mile drive to the county line and get busted there, hell they don't even have a county jail, you serve your petty crime time in a real prison. It's kind of bullshit.

    3 days aint shit.

Other than length of time, why would 60 days be any different than3 days? Same intake procedures and killing time in a cell, just for longer, no? The only difference might be the luxury in having a date and time for turning yourself in rather than a trial, sentence and immediately to jail. I guess in the latter case you might already be in jail and have to deal with being dragged back and forth to court, probably in the same type of restraints described in the thread. But otherwise?

Are you serious? 3 days in jail is VERY different than 60 days, from the sounds of it you've never spent time in jail. The difference is you can't go home to your family for 60 days, in 3 days you're back out and free. Dealing with court is better than spending 60 days in jail with bubba.

But, mr dot, you are right i have not spent time in jail, merely luck on my part. But I should have could have for a number of misdeads (sorta major ones cause when you're young it doesn't seem to matter). Part of the reason I wanted to continue this thread was to learn more. I guess i am interested in knowing how lucky. For instance you said if you get busted over the county line you have to do time in a prison. What is the difference? i'm sure there is a major one, just wanting to know, if my naivete is ok.

Because then the crime would be federal.

Jail is for misdemeaors, minor felonies, and people awaiting trial or sentancing. This means that people there are only doing a couple of years at most so they have incentive to behave. In prison you have lifers or guys doing long bids who don't really give a fuck.

In this state jail is for a sentence of up to a year. a year and a day (or obviously more) requires state prison. Which is why I was asking the question about mrdot's comment about no county jail in the next county, so you have to go to prison instead of county jail.

The chains are no fun for a long drive, I got busted in the states about 5 years ago and was released on my own recognisance till my trial, but the border patrol kept me shackled till they drove me to the border, about a 40 minute drive. They stoped at Canada customs and asked the border people where they wanted me. The US border patrol officer had this incredible look on his face when they told him I was free to go. I not sure what he expected since the US judge said I was released without bail till my next court date.

When I went to go to my court appearence and I had to drive to the border and surrender myself. They locked me in the hand, ankle, waist style cuffs again and drove me to my court appointment. They then removed the ankle and waist cuffs while I was in court, but put them back on for the walk from the court to the border patrol car where the officer removed them again for the ride back to the border. Once back at US customs the wrist cuffs were removed and I was allowed to go on my merry way as long as it was north.

Funny, that I got 2 years probation but couldn't see my probation officer as he was in the states and I wasn't allowed back in unless I broke probation(then they would allow me the pleasure of spending a year and a day minus 3 days already served back in the states, served in state prison). They eventually switched me to a Canadian probation officer after a couple months but I only had to go talk to her 3 times for about 10 minutes each time before she said I didn't need to come back any more. This was about 8 months into my probation period. They never even bothered to drug test me once, although that was part of my probation. Another part of my probation was that I wasn't allowed to vote, but since US and Canadian law are different on this matter and I am not an American, my Canadian probation office told me to ignore that part.

The US gov has quite a racket going, once you get busted you lose your right to vote the scumbags out of offfice.

Dave, that definitly sounds like no fun. And it sounds like it's def better to get caught in Canada. What would have happened if you didn't go back to the border to go to court? Would Canada honor American whining about the no show?

Damn dude I know. I've been arested once. I had to 4 days in jail before court (cus the dumb ass pigs fucked up my papers). For the four days I was on 23 hour lockdown in a cell with a VERY fat, hairy and smelly guy, who would snore so loud at night, it would vibrite the entire bunk thing, I found myself starring at the cealing each night contemplated strangling him (jk). Anyway, the point to that is, they drove me to to the juvinile jale . I was the only won in the van thing. And some redneck gard was starring at me through the rear view like I bit the headoff a baby. Uhhh, oh and the I had the ankle things and there was huge ass steps off the bus, which would make the things dig in, the gard was like "try to hop it myah" minus the myah.

Get like 10 hits of acid. Hide them in the paper work. take one every few hours. Youll be out in no time.

Getting busted is no fun no matter where you are. I've got to learn not to do stupid things. I got a drunk in public charge in Canada (you get to spend the night in lockup and get a fine of around $90), and a felony in the States and sitting in a cell is not fun even if it is only for 10 hours. I pretty sure Canada and the US have agreements that would force an extradition to the States if I didn't show up for my court dates. I didn't want to find out, so I went to court and got probation. It probably would have been state prison if I didn't show up plus extra fines and legal expenses. Plus they probably would have charged me with a lot of other things that were in the police report but I wasn't charged with. Some times it's a lot better in the long run to cut your future losses.

When the border guys picked me up from jail to drive me to the border I couldn't get into the back seat of their suburban with the leg chains on. They yelled at me for about 5 minutes to jump, before they finally got sick of watching me try and threw me into the back.

Yeah, because that'd be sooooo much fun to do while confined in 6x9 container with NOTHING to do.

i got busted once in Colorado (no need to say what for...) outside of a SMALL town. the cops in there couldnt do anything right. they couldnt take my fingerprints correctly, forgot to take my mugshot (eventually did tho), the list goes on... i wound up only spending about 24 hours in the holding cell, with a "break" to go to court.

all of us from the jail were put in handcuffs, ankle cuffs, and waist belt thing, which was attached to the handcuffs. then it came time to get into their paddywagon for transport to the courthouse. as i told them when i was first processed, i was claustrophobic and refused to get in. after about ten minutes of them trying to get me to go in, they finally conceded and got someone else to drive me in a separate SUV.

got to court, and immediately met with a lawyer who had already talked with the judge and DA and got ALL the charges dropped (someone got the lawyer for me over night - thanks one-phone-call!). but i still had to sit there infront of a full courtroom for 2-3 hours still in full shackles and restraints. other people were there for stupid shit like traffic violations.

so then came the time to go back to the jail so i could be released. i was taken out of the FRONT DOOR of the courthouse to the SUV which happened to be on Main St. of this small town. so everyone (including all the tourists) could see me in my jumpsuit and shackles. pretty fuckin sweet. i think it's illegal for you to be seen like that, but i didnt really care. i got a felony dropped!

so i get back to the jail and eventually released. so now i'm miles away from that town high up in the mountains and all i have are a pair of cargo shorts and a tshirt. despite being summer, it gets down to freezing at night. i have no ride, no friends, no cash, nothing.

everything worked out OK - but man, backwards-ass sheriffs... the fucked up thing was that i was never even told what i was being charged with until i LEFT the jail upon being released. they also woulnt give my belt back to me until i was in the lobby of the station, in case i decided to attack one of the guards. ridiculous.
