    Hi all,

I just found out about the two bills in Congress that could seriously affect our food choices and freedoms. These two bills are so vague anyone with a backyard garden could be arrested, fined, or have their land confiscated. I urge everyone who wishes to keep their freedoms in tact, read these bills, contact your Congress person.

It appears to be some form of tracking and regulation of all food production. My first question is how would this to be funded, and who would oversee the proper oversight. The FDIC hasn't been very efficient lately. Was this proposed by SPP committees?

    I love this part:

And can you imagine the fees? Small organic farms and the like will be screwed. Unbelievable!

It dovetails with codex, which seeks to restrict supplements by 2011.

Basically they want it so that your only choice is their GMO crops and their poison drugs.

It's all about population control, really. People can laugh and call me a conspiracy theorist, but it's not like I care about convincing these people of anything anyway. Let them continue to eat poison.

Food Safety Modernization Act? That sounds so wholesome and good. Maybe the government loves us after all.

I dunno, Rat. But that is what it is called.

Food is involved - Safety is involved - It is modernising previous legislation - seems quite fitting [IMG]

Ah, I see. They just want to keep us safe from the non-GMO crops. I get it now. God, I just love big brother.

I'm still making sense of it, Rat, i'll get back to you.

BTW...I would have hoped you already knew what it was called... having studied it in great detail as you do everything.

I didn't read the whole thing, so I may be way off base, but my guess would be that it's because of all the recent food contaminations. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that because we are getting so much of our veggies from Mexico and other places? How is control over our gardens gonna help any of that?

As far as I can see...it is these guys hyperbole...it won't really effect your garden.
    I could be wrong though.

This thing reads like the Patriot Act of food. My small herbal business would be over. I could never afford the fees.

Seems this is pretty much on the farmers. I highly doubt they will be messing with personal gardens any time soon. They are already having problems feeding everyone because of their screwed up policies. It would seem to me that they would LIKE for people to grow gardens, at which point if the food was needed they could confiscate it... Meantime any farmers of any size and kind need to start doing a lot of their sales (or trades) off the radar and "underground". The more farmers/gardeners there are out there doing this, the harder it would be for them to control everything. Gorilla farming, anyone?

What I have been reading is that this bill only effects industries, it puts more strict guidelines on which industries must follow. I have yet to find any information that states that home gardening would be criminalized.

They do not define what "farming" is. They use deliberately vague wording, so it could mean that anyone that grows their own food could be subject to this. There is nothing in the bill that would lead me to believe that small family farms are excluded. At the very least, this is going to (considering the bill is passed) wipe out a large portion of the organic food industry, making it harder and more expensive to get food that hasn't been chemically sprayed or genetically altered.

The only thing this bill would do is ensure that food producing facilities whether it be organic or inorganic farming the raising and slaughter of cattle and various other animal products , fishing and shellfish industries follow new set guidelines top ensure the health and safety of consumers. There has been nothing stated in the Bill that says the recreational gardener or the individuals who raise their own livestock for their own use would be effected. Until I have been shown valid documentation that shows otherwise I will not fall into the conspiracy theories.
