Good Idea... Remember, discussions on this topic tend to be emotion heavy on both sides, so they can get kind of tedious. A fresh perspective on the subject may prove a more successful thread.;)

I posted on the original thread and I came out pretty much on the fence. I have since changed my mind. I've learned some more things and also decided to be truthful with myself. I said I was okay with some hunting. I am now against all hunting and fishing. I never liked it. But I was afraid to associate myself with "PETA wackos", well, I am now ready to admit that I am a PETA wacko. Vegan and everything. So, I'll probably get crap for this, but I don't condone the killing of any animal for any reason. Euthinasia a tentitive exception, but that's a whole other conversation.

Since I cannot see which mod (you don't have an assigned mod, btw) closed the thread, I'm guessing that the discussion was degenerating and getting OT.
No problem staring a new discussion, tho.

I'm going to assume that the discussion in question is this one that did have some constructive discussion but also had some borderline personal attacks. The topic seemed in danger of degenerating into a flame war and this would be my guess as to the reasoning behind closing the thread.

If you initiate discussion of a topic and adopt a stance that you know fundamentally differs from members you need to expect that folks aren't going to automatically ascribe to the logic you feel is so obvious.

Here is how you opened up:
This sets the stage for hostility by appearing to belittle what is going to be a common sentiment about hunting.

Are you a biologist? Do you study wildlife and ecosystems? What authority do YOU have to present your views on the topic as incontrovertible? You set out your overpopulation argument in a manner that suggests that it's irrefutable- implying that the only force that manages wildlife populations is the hunter's firearm. Your style of presenting your point is itself excessively provocative and trivializing a stance that some people clearly take very seriously isn't conducive to a civil discussion.

I don't know who closed the thread but I agree with the move. This is not a forum for the purpose of picking fights and creating a hostile environment for some topics of discussion like animal rights and anti-hunting. By fostering this hostility in the very forum that was created as an environment where animal rights advocates can freely and safely discuss their issues you are adversely affecting the safe haven atmosphere that some prefer when discussing animal rights... making people reluctant to participate is affecting their freedom of speech and deliberately bringing a hostile topic to a forum and forcing your own opinion as irrefutably right is called trolling. Further, you have called out the moderating in open discussion and complaining about that is NOT encouraged. Your contribution is given as a donation and does not mean you can dictate how the forums are moderated. Demanding explanations and complaining does not cast you in a particularly favorable light here.

THIS discussion is now closed... and I'M the moderator who did it.
