okay, this is just a idle query, but I've noticed a quite marked difference in the texture of my emerging dreadlings based on how they're forming.

Those that were backcombed in, have stayed backcombed, and have been 'twiddled' a bit (not palm rolled, just toyed with now and again) are now quite tight and rough in texture - quite course even, and a bit... wiry to the touch. This applies to around 3 or 4 dreads on the crown of my head.

Those that were backcombed and then unravelled considerably (several unravelled completely), are now beginning to dread but feel really silky and soft. Even the parts that are dreading and knotting feel soft. These are my soft, silky dready babies. These are mainly underneath at the back, and are much less dreaded than those on top.

    The rest fall somewhere inbetween.

So I guess my question is this:

Do less manipulated dreads - I'm refusing to use the term "natural" cos i don't like it [stamps foot on ground in stroppy, adamant demonstration] - have a softer, more silky feel to them when they mature, or is the texture of all mature dreads quite rough and course? Do they get rougher to the touch as they knot, shrink, and mature regardless of how they form, and is this course feel and firmness simply a sign of growing dready maturity?

Right now I feel like I have a head of two halves! :D

I'm not sure of the answer...I was thinking along maybe similar lines a while back when I was asking about the difference between the initial hair you start dreading with, and the new hair that dreads itself. What I will say is this: show us some pics already!!! :D

well crochetted dreads tend to have a very duifferent techture

i dunno bout backcombed versus natural but they can look differenbt so feeling differents possible

    but maturity
mine can get lil roufgh whhewn dry,(conditioning this week for that reason)
but typicaly after a good washing tend to feel soft but firm.
looser dreads odviolsy will feel softer tho (like a babies skin, after all they are babies)

so if it gets too annotying do a light conditioning after sw deep cleanse and they'll feel better
