i'm planning on studying abroad in 2 years, my Junior year of college. I Wikipedia'd all of the places my school offers study abroad programs in Australia, and I think I have a general idea of what they're all like.
I narrowed it down to Adelaide, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.
I'd prefer not to be in a place that's too expensive (in terms of shopping, restaurants, things like that), but I'll really just take what I can get. I'm also looking for a place with good nightlife, good music, and a good social scene in general (hey, I'll be 20, I want to take advantage of my youth!) Temps don't matter much, I figure wherever I end up, it'll be warm. And I'm looking forward to that!
So in a nutshell: Not too expensive and a trendy, active social scene.
If anyone lives or has been to any of these places and has any input, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I've been to Perth, and my boyfriend went to Curtin University and it's a really good school. It's a big city (but then again, I come from an island of 1000), and rent or food certainly wasn't cheap... but I assume that's the way it is in any city right now in Australia. I find the smaller towns have a lower cost of living.
