Okay, so I've gotten a couple of things I need to grow with, such as, hps light, fluorescents, timed power strip.

Now I am deciding whether to do it in a soil mixture or if I should purchase a hydroponic system.

Also, what are the advantages/disadvantages of either?

And why is it that the dankest of nugs are considered "dro", if they can be grown in soil?

Cant deciding which way you should go for you.
Hydro plants can grow faster and maybe yield more but downside big learning curve and when it goes wrong ya can loss the lot, another factor is cost unless ya make your own hydro system the start up cost can be expensive.
Soil is cheaper and easier all round alot more forgiving especially if ya dont know some of the finer points of growing. Downside ya always be buying and mixing up soil and then throwing it away once its been used.
Funny that how they can all be grown in soil think its a misconception that hydro is stronger so must be better when in fact if grown correctly in soil ya can't tell the difference.

Right on man, I really appreciate it.

So even if I grow in soil and do it well, then my nugs won't look any different than the ones shown in hydroponic gardens?

Like rock said soil is easier on new growers much more tolerant of mistakes. I personally feel that it can produce a higher quality product than hydro, at least from a taste and smell perspective. The reason that people go hydro is because it can have a higher yeald.

The best medium to grow in is coco.
It is made from coconut husks so is ph neutral and very good for the environment.
Its also very good for the plants as it avoids overdamping of the roots which can often lead to root rot in soil grows.
Coco properties also allow it to distribute an ample airflow throught the substrate.
The coco also allows full control of the nutrients supplied to the plant.
When correctly managed this leads to a higher production of top quality weed.

u can also add 20% perlite to the mix.
this will give extra air flow through the substrate, also useful in colder climates to avoid over-damping but this is seldom a problem with coco.
