Any users of Oxycodone and xanax ever notice a cross tolerance between the two? I haven't ever done both at the same time, but I'm starting to wonder if there's a cross tolerance.

The reason I have a feeling these two drugs have a cross tolerance is:
Over the past two weeks I've taken 30+ mg of oxycodone 2-3 times a week (about 5 doses of ~30mg over the past 2 weeks in other words.)
The last time I dosed oxycodone was yesterday morning (25mg oxycodone).

Today I took 2mg of xanax (just prescribed today for actual anxiety issues that have recently popped up [+ to catch a little buzz] and although it definitively took care of the symptoms I was experiencing with anxiety, the buzz that I usually catch on 2mg of Xanax wasn't anywhere the buzz I got after dosing xanax a day after oxycodone (not to mention the prior two weeks where I took 4 similar doses of oxycodone).

So is there a cross tolerance between these two? I'm planning on taking a break from the oxycodone (probably for two weeks or so to let my tolerance drop) but if I'm going to be taking xanax in the mean time (to deal with actual anxiety issues) I wonder if its going to fuck with the opiate tolerance..

Note: I'd also imagine its possible that the reason I didn't catch the buzz off of 2mg of xanax was because I was experiencing some heavy anxiety and thus the drugs was less effective at getting me high (this is just a theory, I don't know if actual science would agree.)

Also, and this is completely unrelated: does anyone think taking 30mg of oxycodone is too much / dose? I never really had much of a tolerance to begin with but I noticed that was how much my friend usually takes so that's where I started.

I buy my oxycodone in 10/325 doses btw.

benzos and opiates are different kinds of drugs and work on different receptors. id say there might be a bit of mental tolerance but i dont think they would create any physical tolerance for each other. i think your little note on the xanax is more likely. also 30mg is fine for a dose, i know alot of people who take alot more. i would recomend that if you feel satisfied with 30mg to not take any more. the more you take the higher your tolerance is gonna be. and tolerance SUCKS. also i would not recomend mixing the xanax and oxy together. it can be dangerous and i heard it takes away from the oxy high.

Maybe its different from person to person. I have a large opiate tolerance and really dont get super-high anymore from them but if I took 2mg of xanax I would be pretty tore up.

Sorry this is an old post, however what I have to say is relevant and useful. There is some cross tolerance contrary to whatever post above stated. Oxycodone only affects the Mu subtypes mu1 and mu2 and to a lesser extent the kappa receptors, not all of the opiod receptors in the body. With that said, Opiods/ opiates still affect the inhibitory nuerotransmitter GABA, which is exclusively what xanax affects in terms of gaba receptors. Xanax affects the Gaba-A1. With that said there is approximately a 25% maybe a small amount lower cross tolerance between the two. Tolerance develops because the brain is readjusting how much these receptors are being activated. It compensates by increasing the nuerotransmitters that excite rather than inhibit.

So, your brain is adjusted to the increased gaba flow and thus requires more of it to feel the same affects.

There is no cross tolerance between benzos and opioids. Opioids act on opioid receptors and benzos act on GABA-A receptors. They are very different mechanisms.
