My partner and I frequently travel to the nether regions of Northern Ontario. We already live in a rural area of Ontario, but have the deep longing to get lost somewhere. Last year we travelled to Killarney, on the shores of Georgian Bay. It was a lovely little fishing village that you kind of have to trek a bit to get to. (Including a good piece through the middle of a wonderful provincial park). The bears roam free and happy there so watch your back if you decide to check it out! We've been almost as far north in Ontario that a highway will go. That was a bit of an adventure let me tell you. You drive for HOURS and HOURS and don't see a hydro line or another vehicle, nothing but a black line through the bush country. I still want to know why they build highways to nowhere. It got a bit hairy when our truck started to sputter and spit on the trip back out...but we made it. The engine actually BLEW as we pulled into our lane! I've never had any desire to see the west or the south. I've been down through the back country of N.E. USA and loved every minute of it and the beautiful people we met. I've been all over Ontario and Quebec, and loved every minute of that. I'm just happy to have the opportunity to really SEE that place where I live.
