Hohkay, so I've noticed when I'm sleeping my dreads are poking the back of my head and my scalp and its really sore :( I dunno if its cus they are getting really thick and hard and mature (nomnomnom) or if my scalp is just fail :(

I can't remember the last time I washed my dreads... And I haven't given my scalp a good going over with my afro comb to itch it xD

Has anyone else has a sore scalp? If so, did you leave it or did you do anything about it?

    Thankoooo :)

IMO you need to wash your dreads and scalp; not everyone can get away with just rinsing them with water.
Is your scalp itchy too? Any other symptoms?

put ur head under neath the shower head.

my scalp gets tender when the new growth at the roots start to dread and they tighten up. it goes away as I wash and they grow out a bit.

Is it sore as in the ache from hair pulling, or sore on the surface as from skin damage etc? For the latter, I found aloe very soothing.
Oh, is it that soreness that you get on undreaded hair when it's getting greasy and really needs washing? Could that be follicles becoming clogged with dirt and tender with infection or something?

Ohh amy that sounds a bit complicated hehe xD

I think it may have been a combination of amy and bolantej's ideas. It does hurt when I pull them but after giving my scalp a good itch and massage with my afro comb <3, a nice wash this morning it feels slightly better :) I also wore chemigal's tam last night sleeping and it seems to have done some good in knotting aNd calming my dreads :D Love it :D

The notion of new growth is very exciting :D

    Thanks guyyssss

Sometimes my scalp gets sore if I wear it back too tightly or too long. I just let it down for awhile and it feel better. Do you tie back your hair when sleeping? Also, washing would be a good thing because the process massages the scalp and gets the circulation going. One other thing is to make sure you're keeping them separated.

But sounds like you've resolved the issue!

    it coyld be pressure
like u said theyre getting hicker and harder
i get sore shoulders if a dread uner shoulder while i sleep..so have to flip em over the headboard
what ya maybe experiencing is lack of bloodflw due to pressure from the dreads while u sleep..like a lump underya woul cause
flipping them up or tying em up would help

and washing is good so wash em

I wash them every week usually, I just lost trackthis week xD

Yea its from them pressing against my scalp when I'm sleeping. I don't tie them back when I sleep because they aren't really long enough :( But when I do tie them up I have to do it tightly, so I guess that could be something too... Cus when I let them down my scalp sorta screams a sigh of relief xD

I'll use my afro comb alot more to stimlulate the blood flow to my scalp ;D I thank DHHQ for that one xD

just when u lay your head down, take your hand put it under your neck lifty your head slightly and move your hand up sp u push all the dreads upward..
dont gotta bertied just so they lay upward..it should \help
but ..i guess if they are really fat not alot will help much..
except maybe letting them flatten out?
all my thicker ones are on the sides so i dunno

    u have a feather pillow?
if so, u may be able to squish the sides together so u have 2 lumps kinda with a like trench between so the lumps support the sides of your head allowing the dreads to lay between without pressure
