hey! your locks seem to be looking pretty good! you'll probably always have some frizzies but they look fine! You can always try some aloe, i've heard that really helps smooth out some frizz...

and if you wanna make sure there isn't wax or any other things built up in your dreads try using the deep cleanse on here. It'll make your hair feel nice and clean either way! :)

    youre hella cute :D

i think your dreads look super tidy and awesome. theyre locked up really nicely for such short hair and suit you really well.
those little bits of loose stuff can be pulled in easily with a crochet hook. some people use latch hooks (ive never found one that was small enough to go in the dread easily) or big needles, or those little loops used for flossing with braces.

you can also round your ends with a crochet hook. just flip the end hairs around and pull them in a bunch of times. i found it a bit of a pain in the ass. it took a long time to round an end.
you can also use a felting needle. i would not recommend you use one on any other part of your hair because they are damaging and break a lot of hairs. ive known people who have had a lock break off because they felted too much.
but on the very tips, its not going to be a big deal if you break hairs.
anyway, you just manipulate the end into a round shape and stab it repeatedly with the needle until it felts like that.

    hope that was helpful :)

hmm haha thanks for the positive responses guys! ya i spent a little bit of time last night trying to round a few ends, was taking quite a while though.. I also found crocheting loose hair in was difficult. ill try and get them all done at some point, and post some pics of them.

What are all your opinions on this latching/finger latching method? I was looking at vids on youtube last night and it seemed more like it would be a braid, rather than matting?

One other thing, i think id like slightly thicker dreads, i've got about 70 at the moment, is it very difficult to get a few matting together? cheers!

your wasting yiour timer crochetting .. they look damn perfect already
and ignotree those 2 who think they know everything as long as it contradicts anything sensible or anything i say and just google this phradse dammage caused by crochetting dreads
youll get thousands of hits sonme even claiming theyre dreads fell right off

do your own research and think how can the needle pass through the mass theres no room for it to part hairs without breaking
god some people are idiots just to prove a point

now your dreasd so east \y to combine ..1 stop crochetting thats never gonna help u need those loose hairs to join dreads
    2 let them combine
    3 love em

    or
    1 stiop crochetting
    2 put 2 dteads through 1 bead
    3 they'll ciombine

no matter what crochetting will prevnt them from joining
and if u resrearch insterad of simply taking the oposite point of view your going to find many many mamy stories of how it does dammage

but ..logic wikll tell u it cannot go through the dread withiout breaking hairs..
roubd square ointed it wont natter the hairs are too tightly packed for anything thicker then a hair (and as flexible since it has to eweave around othe5 hairs) to pass through

well most of my dread tips/ends are pretty loose and frizzy. They arent very compact at all, and it doesnt feel like the hairs are breaking, maybe just a couple of little pieces break off. The roots are also pretty loose and not matted, so crocheting a few strands of loose hair into that isnt going to break anything. I'm sure there are lots of people on the internet that have broken hairs etc, maybe they did it too rough or something. There are also lots of people who have done it without problems.

I dont understand how 2 dreads will join together just with a bead on them though??

They will join at the root if you put the bead right at the top. That's the theory anyway. I do remember though it was a while with my dreads before they started congoing by themselves. These days it's usually in the same places. Pretty much everywhere:p

feel 1 hair breaking u dont feel 5 u dont feel its not till your breaking clumps of like 15 or more at once is there enough resistence to feel.. single hairs break very very easily.. but its 1 after 1 after 1 in a row rarely a whole lot all at once that cause enough resistence to feel (or hear..some do say thety hear it)

i also posted about crochetting causeing a very distinct woven look and those single broken hairs find theyre way out sio crochetting becomes a lifelong maintanance just to keep an even feel and look..when they are tioghter is when the dammage is gr4eatter

now some only do it at the roots.. this wont do as much dammage..but is counter productive since rhye fuxzzz becomes baby dreads..or combines dreads to thicken them..
it can also join dreads on its own reinforcimg them

the fuzzalso protects from sunburn..it has a opuropose to protect the scalp between dreads, and when its long enouigh will become dreads..it needs no extra care

Are you going to listen to people with experience with crocheting, or someone who makes up "facts" about crocheting? Also, I took a look at your link soaringeagle. The only one that said anything about crocheting causing damage was a long rant using the exact same wording as you. This rant included a link back to the Dreadlock section of Hipforums... hmmmmmm..... I did not see a single testimonial saying crocheting caused any damage. Get over yourself soaringeagle, because on this issue, you are completely 100% wrong.

SE, have you actually looked at those google entries? I do not see ones there which actually claim crocheting does damage. I'm not starting a fight, I personally think crocheting is too much effort really and not worth it. The only one I did see was a thread from here!

Hey Punkers...your dreads are awesome! I wish my dreadies were as neat as yours! And from the pics your frizz is normal and not anything to be concerned over. My frizz is so vast it has its own solar system!

u need no bead to join them,.,,,u need only the loose hairs u insist on controlling
if u dont rip dreads apart the kloose hairs will combine them
    i stopped ripping in june
since then 5-6 joined into 1 in many places
other places 2-3 or so became 1
    no beads involved
a bead will alow the roots to keep from being seperated so they will have to become one

im on page four of the google search "damage caused by crocheting". so far, nothing.
i actually found on page two, a quote from one of my posts on here arguing for crocheting causing little to no damage lol.
on the first page was a tribe link where some guy was basically quoting se and gave a link back to this forum.
absolutely no personal testimonials claiming damage from crocheting.

... but I also heard it can damage your hair pretty bad resulting in breakage of the lock. ... Your dreads look great! How long have you had them? ... Lots of palm rolling and lots of sewing/crocheting in loose ends. ...
