hello all, looking for some advice concerning my dreads,i had them done yesterday in a salon and i thought they were going to be thicker than i thought. The process took 6 hours and she used a chemical to tighten the hair, twisting & rubbing, wax.also rubber bands, were used in the process. After reading some other threads I'm thinking i should of probably gone the natural way and not spent the money, but live & learn i guess... I'm going back in two weeks to get the bands taken out. 1.,Can i ask if she can make them fatter? or she will have to redo the dreads again? 2.When can i wash my hair?do i have to wait at least 5 days?My hair feels like I've rubbed lard all over and feels kinda weird lols Here are some pic's of my hair, any help or suggestions appreciated. http://img24.imageshack.us/gal.php?g=20090314021632482.jpg
You should NEVER use wax. Ever. Also, chemicals are bad for hair, unless they're all-natural. The reason they use chemicals is to damage the hair and make you come back again to spend more money. If you want them thicker, then yes, you'll have to have them re-done. I would say wash with a residue-free shampoo after two weeks.
wow those are tiiiiny. you can make them fatter yourself. just put a bead over two or more and they will merge with each other. i wouldnt put anymore crap in them. if theyre full of gunk, they will have a harder time knotting (as well as drying after a wash). plus, it feels gross and gets all over your pillow. a little bit of wax isnt going to hurt, but if you can see it and feel it, its too much. there is no reason you cant wash them right away. use soap and hot water and get all the crap out. most people wash once or twice per week. im more like twice a month, but thats just what works with my hair type. going back to the salon is your call (someones going to be in here real soon telling you that is was a huge scam and to comb your hair out or something). i wouldnt go back. dreads can me made and maintained by you. or not maintained at all. you dont have to go back anyway. take the bands out yourself, if left in for too long they can melt into your hair. and from there, all you have to do is wash when they feel dirty and let them knot up on their own, which they will do. you can also do maintenance if thats your thing welcome and i hope that helped
yikes those are as tiny as my tiniest she screwed u bad they arent dreads they look like braids glued together no salon has ever done decent dreads if i was you i would request my money back id then comb that all out that will never result in dreads im sorry to say id then sdo alotta wax removal, and some kinda hair repair to fix the dammage done by the chemicals then its up to u if u want to go natural or twist n rip or backcomb whatever way u go will work fine but well what u got now will never turn into what u want i shouldnt say never..u could congo the hell outta it and u will have funky dreads with tiny lil weird braidy dammaged tails its only been days..get your money back and lets start over the right way step 1 return the hair to its natural (wekll its natural states natural dreads i mean here thiugh its undreaded unwaxed state) once your cleaned up and recovered we will go over all other options to do it right post unmessed up hair pics when your cleaned up get the bands out rifgt away tho..then start the cleanup
awwpity you didn't find us sooner! I'd just forget about the hairdresser. I doubt they'd give you your money back since they spent 6 hours on it and you put your trust in them. I'd just wash wash wash, scrub scrub scrub. I wouldn't bother combing them out, I'd say they'll find their own way once you get all the shit they put in out. Good luck though man
I would check out the wax removal sticky and herbs for your head sticky and wash, scrub, soak, rinse them until they feel happy. Good luck!
Like Luxi said, it's too bad you didnt find us a couple of days earlier. If it was me I reckon i'd cut my losses and restart. First thing i'd do is call the salon and tell them your not coming back and that you were not happy the way they turned out. You probably wont get your money back, but at least maybe they'll realise they have no idea what they are doing and stop (you can only hope). Next thing, i'd try to comb my hair out and do the deep cleanse that bcmama suggested in the stickies. Try to get your hair as back to normal as possible. Then you can be in control of how you want your dreads to turn out. Couple of methods are natural, backcomb or the twist and rip. There's a sticky on all these methods, so i wont goo into all that now. But if you really wanna control the size or your dreads i'd recommend something like backcombing, but really depends on what you want out of your dreads. The other scenario is that the saloned dreads are pretty much not able to be combed out. If you wanna try to stick with them, you can try to "congo" 2 or 3 of them together. You can do this by using beads or hemp ties or whatever. But I definately wouldn't go back to the salon for something you can do yourself (remove bands) Anyway, a few people on here didnt have the best start to their dreads either. Dont let this put you off dreads, mostly all problems are fixable. There's tones of great info and pleantly of people willing to answer your questions on here, so do some research and enjoy.
Thanks for the positive feed back,i removed the bands and washed all the wax outta my hair and going to start all over again.Feels a lot better now,so hopefully i can get a good night sleep now. You guys are right,i wont be going back to the salon and regret going now,but anyways its done now. I'm going to try to backcomb and twist with some aloe Vera gel tomorrow if i can find any at the store. My deadlock mission will continue... First pic: bands taken out Second pic: Is clean hair
your hairs nice n thick aand will dread great why they made such super thin lil braids is beyond me ya could easily go natural with that judging from that pic or u can backcomb or twist n rip id think somwhere round the thicknes of a finger or lil thuicker will give ya a great headful of dreads ya wont hafta overdo it either whatever method ya choose u can do a 1/2 assed job and should come out fine pretty quickly just because if the thickness and techture i would absolutelyy at least call the salon and tell em off.. not because other salonds woulda done it better but at least just to let em know that they screwed up and u hadta start over the right way hey..just for the hell of it..if u backcomb, leave 1 area underneath unbackcombed and just twist it and add a bead ..just for comparison..if ya want..just think would be an interesting experiment u could always backcomb it later and being underneath wont matter much how it looks at 1st
