I think you might need a little more length, and don't worry, i stake too and mine are past my shoulders...you won't even notice them while your skating.

yea more lengths needed..3-4 inches backcomb 4-r if u go natural
well except u said u got like an afro?
is your hair kinda like africanish techture?
if so..u can start at incredibly short..1/4 inch..just twist then neglect
    lets see pictures

post a pic so you can get more informed advice :)
you could probably go neglect quite nicely. most curly hair seems to knot up in no time. if your hair doesnt grow though (too fragile?) then your going to have to make the locks with short hair. dreads will help protect your hair and enable it to grow longer (i am assuming you have african hair just b/c thats what it sounds like, you should really post a pic). again if you have a fro, you can twist the hair into lock sized sections and wait for it to knot up. backcombing wouldnt work with such short hair.

look at it its already wanting to dread (tiny pic tho so hadta zoom way in to see)
u absolutely can go naturtral at that length..or iu can twist and neglect for neater more controlled locks (i think work best with thinner locks)
stop pickin it or combing or anything but washing with non residue soap
    ysa should see quick results
if u go full natural, they can be unpredictable so rip to control sizes

nooo locking gel thats a scam and works againdst ya
non residue soap is all u need

twisting them yourself they will be APPROXIMATELY the same size if thats what u want
nothing will ..or should makre em exact same size there should be some varuation at lesast so they dont look too manufactured..

i wouldnt think twisting would work well over 1/2 inch tho..more like 1/4 or up to 1/2 will work beautifuly

i could be wrong tho just seems it would be awkward

I cant believe I am saying this....

skip the goo's and just be patient. looking at your head, looks like you would have more of a problem keeping them from locking than getting them not to....make any sense?????
A few folks on here I have heard use Neutrogena.....long as its residue free think you are in good shape :) I am so envious of such dread easy hair textures!!!!
    Happy Dreading!!!!
