I had a guy slap my ass and ask me if I wanted a hug just a few minutes ago. He had just bought more beer. (I went to the store to buy my mom some cigarettes)

I was bent over getting my purse out of the car. I didn't have to slap him the guy that works at the gas station has a thing for me and started screaming at the drunk in Spanish.
yeah... maybe i should ask you ... what are you considered? uuuh.. mixed... obama-esk? my kid is mixed.. and about 6 months ago she said to me very shocked... "I'M BLACK??" .... uuuhhh
I'm mixed. Yep. But I basically consider myself black. I was raised by the black side of the family, primarily. People who see me on the street in New York probably think I'm Puerto Rican. Sometimes black...I get a lot of "brother", "bro", and "ma nigga" from homeless men holding the door and begging for change at Wendy's. But I don't really care.
she's been raised by mostly white folks... she's brown. the foster home she's in right now is a black family... but they might be mixed too.. not sure... her and i haven't really had a chance to have "that talk" yet...
I would advise you not to delay it. And instead of saying it doesn't matter, try and instill in her a pride in both her black side and her white side. Because it's gonna keep coming up... I would also say that she doesn't have to act according to any expectations people have of her, nor identify with racial labels. She is her own girl...mixed and beautiful.
