I am asking because for the last 2 summers I have kept my hair out of the sun to keep it dark, it is naturally brown/dark brown and I have a thing against dying my hair.

But this summer I am going to abstain from being a control freak and let my hair in the sun so I can have some good summer memories rather then ones of me sitting in the shade like an emo.

I think I might have a tiny bit of red in my hair, so I don't know what colour it will go. I would rather it go slightly more red then blonde. I am very much not the blonde type. I love my dark hair but It is mad to wear a hood all summer.

So what natural hair colouring do you have and does it go lighter in the summer?

    Thanks!

    Blessings

mine doesn't because i am hardcore about protecting myself from the suns damaging rays

but as a child mine and my sisters hair would always lighten up a lot through out the summer, as we got older we figured out that lemon juice sped up the process...

My cousin would surf practically everyday and his hair turned really light blonde (like he had highlights). It was a mid brown color.

yeah mine does it used to way more when i was more of a swimmer in the summer time. it still does though, and i've got some natural blonde highlights anyways so they just stand out more and more these days. Scott says that's why i'm so dingy sometimes is because of the blonde i've got

Yes, my hair always gets lighter in the summer months. It tends to get a lot of blonde through it, maybe more like a strawberry blonde. I always hate what it looks like when fall starts because it looks all crappy because of the different colors, the natural highlights fading out, which is why this past fall I dyed my hair. Now I'm wondering what to do because I prefer the natural sun kissed looked in the summer and don't want to be bothered with coloring my hair, yet don't want roots showing.

Oh, and I'm naturally auburn haired. Brown with lots of natural red tones in it.

Yes. Which can go one of two ways, it can be a little sun streaked and beachy, and go with sunkissed checks(which is really just roseacea but no one has to know).
    - but mostly it will turn a mousy light brown color that looks extra frizzy, and makes my conplection look washed out.

some just lightens up moreso than others. mine doesn't mke any discernible shift. my daughter's, however, gets very very light blonde.

yeah, mine used to fade more than it does now. i was never really sure if that was due to a change in hair, or a change in the amount of sunlight it was exposed to though.
