not exactly dread related but i know most dreads like to drum so, light the fire, gather round, drum your heartbeat niyabinghi or shamanistic, raging or melodic, doesnt matter as long as we're all united join in on the fun..but focus on the purpose i know it will be early for most of us, maybe we can just drum all night into the next day? i'm up for that VERY IMPORTANT According to a Prophecy Revealed at the Otomí Ceremonial Center by the Otomí Elder Sages to the Indigenous Peoples and all Humankind and a Vision of our Venerable Ancestors, the day when the Sounds of Eight Thousand Sacred Drums join together will be the beginning of a true Healing of Mother Earth, of All the Species and of the Human Family – which is now in total disequilibrium – in order to be able to live together on the road to Sacred Peace, in harmonious union with the Universe, Mother Nature, the Community, the Family and our own Hearts. It is time to re-unify ourselves and rediscover for ourselves all the Seeds of the Four Directions in order to reactivate cosmic energy, heal historical wounds and heal our Mother Earth by respecting life and the liberty and dignity of our Peoples. 1. Our drum ceremony will take place on march 21st, 2009 between 10 a.m. and 12 noon, Mexico City time (CST); you may synchronize with us by drumming at that time. 2. There has been some confusion about when to begin drumming from other locations. Here at the Otomi ceremonial site in Temoaya, Mexico, the Ceremony of 8,000 Drums will be from dawn to dusk on the 21st, beginning with a morning ceremony at dawn. Our original intent was to have as many people as possible drumming and praying in at the exact same time. We will be drumming from 10 am to 12 noon, Mexico City time (CST). We hope those of you in nearby time zones will be able to synchronize your ceremonies with ours. However, we realize that this may not be possible for everyone, in that case please offer your drumming, songs and prayers at any time; people from all over the world will be participating at different times, you will be in synch with others somewhere! How exactly do I make a drum sacred? My mom has an African one downstairs, but I don't think it's sacred, should I sprinkle holy water on it, or sacrifice a goat, or...?
oh coolio! does a drum set work?...what if it's been muffled for apt use (it has mesh heads, open-ended toms, and plastic cymbals)? and what if it's not "sacred"? does it matter how long we join in? im not sure i can do a whole 2 hours of drumming...and does it matter what we drum? i'll def set a reminder on my phone though! i even got this saturday off work, so i can actually participate ^_^
the drum is sacred. a tree and an animal gave theyre lives to create the drum, drums have always been used in healling, in transendental trances and meditations, they are key in shamanic journeys, in tribal cultures theyre used in every type cerimonies from weddings to mourning to harvest fests . as well as being used to communicate between villiages.drumming unites you with the heartbeat of the earth itself. you dont have to make a drum sacred only respect the sacredness of the drum
if thats all ya got its better then nothing, but hand drums are preffered just becvause theres a far greatter connection, natural wood natural skin (or fiber heasds for vegan drums.. the feel and sounds not the same, but how can u dispute the sacrednessof not wanting to use an animal product) it doesnt matter though as long as you drum with the purpose of creatting peace and harminy with all if u can get a hand drum thoughh, it sure would be better.
Big mac's are sacred too. A cow, cucumber, onion, and head of lettuce all gave its life so you could bite down into the juicy goodness. The head on my djembe broke... tis a shame.
dont have the resources for a hand drum and im in my apt so it has to be quite enough to not bug the crap out of my neighbors i'm doin my best SE!
cant go out to the woods and drum with other drummers? well every bit helps im gonna try gettin like 100 ppl to drum from 9pm till noon the following day if i can btw 2 hours isnt long to drum at all..4-6 hours usualy seems too short in big circles (couple thousand) alotta us will drum 24 hours straight and zakhir huseine, probly the worlds best tabla player to attain his mastership drummed 40 days and nights without sleep or food (i assume he had water though)
haha thats a funny to hear coming from some one who hates Christianity, anyone else hear seem to remember a certain bible story about a certain holy person going into the desert and not eating for 40 days and nights?
SE ...now dont you go telling me my hair was getting ready to dread on its own in that pic ...you hear me That wonderful messy doo was curteousy of hot rollers
Wow. This thread has just elicited one of those wierd coincidences/strange serendipidous moments in my world. I've been having a bit of a clear out recently (I'm hoping to move home soon), and I came across a small hand drum that I was given years ago. It was tucked away in the corner of my son's bedroom and was looking rather out of place and unloved. Last night I brought it downstairs and place it in the pile of stuff to take to the charity shop. About 2/3 minutes before reading this thread I was looking at it sitting on top of a pile of old clothes and wondering why it just didn't somehow feel right that I clear it out, even though I knew someone out there may greatly appreciate it and put it to good use. Now all is clear. thx SE. I'll be putting it to good use myself on March 21st.
How long can a person survive without any food??? That is a long ass time...I would of been doing some Alive shit. edit...and the sleep thing...no sleep...dont ya kind of go nutts ?????
