Hey im trying to grow shrooms with a friend. He has horses so we took the shit and we put it up in the woods where its kinda dark, itll get warmer here soon. And hes gonna spray a little water to keep it moist. Will this work at all? What kind of shrooms grow on horse crap? And dont worry, i will be doing extensive testing once i do get some to make sure they wont kill me. But yeah, any info would be appreciated thanks.

This could work... But I HIGHLY suggest you don't eat anything that might grow from it... If you really want to grow mushrooms at home, you need to google the PF Tek, or read into doing casings. There is a ton of information out there to be found. You can search the nook archives, or go to a growing specific forum like intensevisuals or shroomtalk and find all kinds of information for a new grower with step by step directions.

Eating mushrooms in the wild can be deadly for experienced mycologists, let alone someone with no prior knowledge. Be careful man...

Use the money for the expensive kits and buy some spores, organics, and some mason jars. That way you know what your getting, its so easy, and very potent.

    highly unlikely

instead of taking a complete stab in the dark and then asking someone on a forum if it will work, you should look up information on how to grow mushrooms (which is free and plentiful) and then try that.

if you're in the right climate, there is a chance the shit will grow mushrooms, but i doubt it. if you were in the right climate, they'd be growing in your friend's fields, and you would have no need to do anything but pick and dry them.

I did have some limited success cultivating p cubensis on cow pies in East Texas, but this was after I had done some fairly extensive field work observing & harvesting wild 'shrooms. What you are proposing is not impossible. If you don't live in Northern VA.

How come injecting the cow shit with cubensis spores wouldnt work though? Since its outside theres no worry of contams.

how do you figure? the contaminating bacteria and fungi which ruin cakes didn't miraculously appear only after people built houses. if anything there is far MORE risk of contamination.

when cubensis mushrooms grow in the wild, there are thousands of potential places for them to come up. one county made up mostly of farms may have several thousand of piles of cow or horse droppings. on top of that, the spores floating around in the air number in the millions.

not every spore lands on a cowpie, and not every spore that does will successfully lead to fruiting. but the numbers are so goddamn high that lots and lots of mushrooms end up growing anyway.

but there are TONS of other types of spores, not to mention bacteria, ready to take over, too.

further it isn't likely to work for the OP because they live so far north, and even in the summer it may get too cool some nights, in the 80s or 90s in the day and the 70s, 60s or even 50s in the night. such frequent and drastic temperature changes can't be good for the mushrooms.

psilocybe cubensis is native to virtually every tropical and subtropical region on the planet. the reason they don't grow other places is that they simply can't.

as for growing on unpasteurized dung outdoors, i've seen teks for it, and seen the teks reviewed. i've not once read of somebody having substantial success with it, and can't think of ever having read of anyone getting anything beyond mycelium. the general consensus at the time i was reading up on this seemed to be that it was quite easy to get some mycelium to grow, but virtually impossible to ensure any usable yield at all.

i have, but they are a totally different species of mushroom, with totally different environmental and nutritional needs. i've seen plenty of info on growing woodloving mushrooms like azurescens and cyanescens, but paneolus subbalteatus isn't very commonly used and i have never once seen a tek which proposed a means for cultivating them. its generally considered less desirable than a number of other psilocybian mushrooms.

if you're going to grow mushrooms, cubes are generally the way to go.

I agree...but all I got in my garden are sub pans and they really kick ass! If I eat 10 silver dollar sized ones I'm flying for several hours with no stomach discomfort.

i thought the pic you had as your signature before was your garden.

if thats the case, they don't look like Panaeolus subbalteatus

Yes in my albums too I have the pic. There are several panaeolus subalteatus variations. Haymakers shroom looks like it to but not non psychoactive.

The ones in my garden are def psychoactive! :D I eat them when ever they pop up.

Pic might not be too clear. Next time they come up I'll take closer ones. The spore prints are sub pans. Nice dark purple spores and blue bruising on all parts. They taste mushroomy fresh better tasting dried. I just swallow them whole with water.
    :cheers2:
