Pretty much without exception, every overweight child at my son's school has, yes, you've guessed... overweight parents. But genes, my arse!! That's just dubious excuse making and a total abdication of responsibility. What is, without doubt, passed on from parent to kid though, is crappy eating habits, little knowledge of cooking, food preparation and nutrition, and, perhaps most damaging of all, low self-esteem.

    Burger anyone? :D

Yeh but that's taught at school. I certainly never learned any of those things at home and I'm definitely not a huffamoose! :p

crappy heating habits are taught at home from very early in a kids life. If they've been fed a poor diet as a tot, by the time they get to school their taste buds are already well and truely hooked on fatty, sugary food. School education is often too little too late.

This has been a bit of an issue in my household recently - I've been pretty horrified by my son's closest friend who has come round for tea a few times. The lad is... rather on the tubby side to say the least, and he eats like horse. It's like he's got no stop button. His mother is morbidly obese and has admitted that they live on take-outs, and the kid wouldn't touch a fresh vegetable if his life depended on it. The boy's table manners are non-existant and he eats, frankly, like a pig. My son has complained several times that he snatches food from his plate after he's finished his own at lightening speed. And believe me, if you can take a backseat and just observe (which i have done), its really something else to watch

While some folks may have a hereditary predisposition to pile on and retain the pounds, if you trough shite til its bulging out your eyes you will end up a lard arse - regardless of your genes. And I really do believe good eating habits start and end at home. Most kids like chocolate, sweets and Micky D's, and some is ok. But if the parents can't police there own eating habits how are they ever going to teach balance (or self-respect) to their child?

I'm just happy they aren't American, but it's a bit discerning knowing that in some places being fat is something you can't help and actually get benefits for. Wish I could get benefits for being right-handed.

this is really fucking sad because one of my best friends who eats healthy and trys her damnedest to lose weight and can't because she has a lot of health problems she was born with. She doesn't get benefits she doesn't get any help. She is applying for jobs all the time. She weighs like 250-300lbs and she is out there everyday trying to work so she can live on her own and enjoy her self.
Also my uncle buck use to weigh 400+lbs and worked everyday. He works on cars, trucks, and john deere tractors. He has since though lost 200+lbs.
And my sister(aunt) Mandy is 200+lbs right now and gets up every morning and teaches advanced students at a day care. She is constantly running around with the kids and also we go on hikes whenever I'm in nc.

I weighed 220lbs at 16 years old and I'm down to 176 so I know those motherfuckers can lose weight and until I can see medical documents stating that their fattness is from something in the family I will have to say that they should go to jail for abusing the tax payers money.

ok so I did have a point but I lost it somewhere from being so mad about how stupid these people are.
