    Halloween is the best holiday ever.

    Not because it has evil origins or because it's got an origin in some religion that we can't remember.

    Halloween is the holiday that has no religious grounds,
    Or if it did, it is lost in the annals of history.

    Halloween is the holiday where it is acceptable for kids to act like kids, and even adults to act like kids once more.

    You give candy,
    You get candy,
    You get to dress up in a costume,
    Run around,
    And have fun,
    And almost nobody knows of any religious or historic connotations,
    And those who do tend not to care,
    Because halloween isn't about those things,
    It's about fun.
    -- er,
    And candy.

    Halloween rules. =)

    I'm really quite suprised how people can have such bizzare misconceptions and outright ignorance.

    THERE IS ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING EVIL ABOUT HALLOWEEN. IT IS A PAGAN HOLIDAY CELEBRATED BY PEOPLE WHO DON'T EVEN BELIEVE IN SATAN.

    Allow me to refresh your memory. It's origins are pagan (Celtic mainly). A religion very much alive and well in various forms.

    Admittably the standard form is a secular sugar fest, but that was never the intention.

    Halloween in it's purest form is a pagan/wiccan sabbat. Possibly the most important. It marks the end of harvest and some consider it the new year (that or yule, it's a subject of debate).
    It is also considered a time when the spirit and human world are closest together.

    It's origins are well documented and available to anyone who can be bothered to do a google seach and/or read books on the subject.

    It's funny, but I only ever here christian fundamentalists talk about it in this way. Perhaps it's a reflection of what's within?

    I never understood how people believe that Halloween has evil origins. Where are you getting that fact from?

    It has two roots: The afformentioned Pagan root, and in Christianity it's All Hallow's Eve - The night before All Saints Day and All Soul's Day. Originally people dressed in scary costumes and carved scary faces in pumpkins to ward off bad spirits - Christians did this - to prepare for All Saints Day.

    Where is it written that Halloween's origins are evil?

    Origins = paganism.
    Paganism = satan.

    Christian fundamentalist logic. Gotta love it ;)

    I was GOING to make a fierce reply about the "Paganism = satan" part, but then I read the rest.

    Indeed, you gotta love it. And if you don't, you'll burn in hell for all eternity. ;)

    I like Halloween, personally. One of the nice things about this country is that our culture is built on the combination of different ideas and cultures. In the case of Halloween, the real ritualistic practices are kind of lost. It's still a fun holiday.
