    Hello friends,

I was thinking about gettings some snake bites but I have never had any sort of piercing before so I really don't know anything about it. Does anybody either have a definate answer to these questions or a good source that might have some info about it?

I was hoping to find out:

    What the risks are involved,

What kind of care it would take,

What kind of marks it would leave when removed
(I have always wanted them but since I plan to be a doctor I had decided not to but a friend recently told me they don't really leave scars or marks when you take them out)

Also I was considering getting a piercing on the middle part of my nose because since the hole itself is hidden I could always have that one.

does anybody know the name of that piercing so I can look into it more?

Also if anybody can think of any other points I should be asking about please mention them.

    Thanks

    What the risks are involved
With any piercing, there is risk of infection. With an oral piercing, especially if you don't brush your teeth and use some type of non-alcoholic mouth rinse. Other than that, I sometimes bit down on my studs accidentally and pull them. Hurts a little but its fine unless you pull too hard and rip it. (Which I have heard of people doing.) I think this is mainly just a problem for people with a fat lip. -which i have.

What kind of care it would take
While it is healing, you have to clean it regularly and keep your mouth clean. (as above mentioned)
In general, clean it every once in a while, because it might get nasty. It is an oral piercing after all. Plus, if you're a smoker, it's liable to get really greasy. (because of the smoke)

What kind of marks it would leave

there is no definite answer for this. They might leave small scars, more noticeable scars, or no scars at all. If they leave scars, they probably wouldn't be too bad since it's just a 14g piercing. Not very big. (unless you stretch)

Just remember, if you should decide to get piercings, make sure everything is clean and sanitary!
And if they should get infected, don't freak out. Swish some saline solution around in your mouth and keep them clean and you'll be all right.

    :)

Risks include going to a bad piercer and having them pierce you improperly. There is also the possibility of migration. Which is when a piercing just doesn't agree with your body and will begin to get pushed out of your skin. Though i have never seen that happen with snake bites. As well as it getting infected if you don't take care of it.

Rinsing with a sea salt and warm water mixture as well as gurgling some original Listerine after every meal with help with that.

Measurements aren't extremely important but 1/4 tb of sea salt to a 1/2 cup of water should work. Make sure the salt is completely dissolved. Your piercer should give you some after care instructions either way.

MarksIf you take care of your piercings, the marks left will eventually look like small dots. No one will know you had piercings. They will look like a small dot of discoloration on your face, barely noticeable.

The piercing your talking about is called a septum. They can also be flipped up inside your nose so you could still have it while at work. If you wanted to keep it that long. I have one and I love it.

Just one another thing, if you get your snake bites and they do start migrating ( also know as rejecting) take them out, they wont stop. I know, i learned the hard way with my eyebrow. Also if they get really infected and even with your cleaning them they stay infected it is best to take them out and let them heal. You can always try again at another time. Lastly, LEAVE YOUR PIERCINGS ALONE. Its very tempting to play with them when u first get them but that will lead to irritation as well as transferring whatever dirt is on your hands into your piercing.

    Good luck:cheers2:

im awful about playing with my piercings too.
after care for my septum was limited to picking the crusties off with my unwashed fingers lol. i love picking...

anyway, i have a lip piercing that used to be stretched to 8g (took it out and let it shrink) and the hole is quite small now. its not completely unnoticeable, it just looks like a little dent or something.

just make sure you go to a reputable piercer and follow their aftercare instructions and you will be fine.
infections are very rare, but irritation is pretty common. hot sea salt or chamomile soaks are great for calming irritation.
another possible problem is poor placement. the jewelry can rub against your gums or interfere with your teeth. again, a good piercer will make sure its in the right place, at the right angle.

that was the problem I had with my first lip piercing. Pretty much ruined the gum in front of one of my teeth.
