I've also posted about this upcoming journey of mine on BL but I wanted to hear what you guys here think about it and if somebody maybe even has done a similar thing?

Well guys so to make a long story short, I am going to live in a monastery for 1-2 weeks.
I decided to do this just out of sheer curiosity and because I am seeking unusual mystical experiences. Because of my occupation (student=D) I can easily afford to sacrifice about 2 weeks of my oh so precious time, and financially the monastery covers all the expenses .. woopee
By no means am I a true believing Christian (this is a catholic monastery) and I actually oppose the bible, but I do believe in higher orders and quite fancy the excluded life of monks.

Just imagine the haunting choir of the monks, deep dark catacombs, frankincense in the air, beautiful marble walls and floor.... hard to imagine a more spiritual place in a western city.

I am sure this will make for an extraodinary experience, and I am glad to have the opportunity, because this experience will send me to higher realms without the help of certain 'tools' ;) - well maybe some will find their way into my robe though :)

To be educated at the expense of the willing is a blessing.

You'll see ritual. By the book ritual. But many are willing to entertain other points of view. You should ask questions. I'm sure you'll be pointed to someone who can answer them.

Great chance for a little self discovery. Jump in!

i went to stay in one on a school trip a few years ago. We didnt live the full life like the monks for that week lol but we stayed with them and had many talks with one of the monks throughout the week, and went masses with them and ate how they ate etc etc.

it was a catholic monastery in the middle of nowhere on top of a hill. One of the monks shown us how much of the land they owned . It wass huggeee, he pointed dow the hill and said 'as far as you can see and way way way past that'. I think he said something like 1000 acres of just field and wood that they owned

yes so i think you will have a good experience, but i would say that the trip did make me even more atheist.

You may get bored after the full 2 weeks, they dont do much except pray for approx 8 hours a day go to mass and eat in silence then go to, i think it was 5 masses then to bed at 9.00.

The monks were very nice though, although i did feel very sorry for them, most had spent about 60 years there, just praying for people all day for the rest of their lives, but it was their choice and 50% of tehm seemed happy.

It was a shame; all that money and all that time, when they could have instead of praying for people, use billions of £££££ that they have laying around building crifixes with it and spend that time helping the world.

my opinions though, but ye si do indeed think you will have a good time and if you are into masses, they were quuite calm

The opportunity to spend some time away from all the normal cares of the world seems one that is too good to miss- hope it goes well and brings everything you hope for.
