i want to get a koi fish tattoo on the inside of my arm, my buddy just got his tattooing license so he's going to do it, and he insists that i might as well just put it on the top of my arm and start a sleeve, because i won't be able to handle the pain on the inside of my arm. now i do have slender arms, not much more then skin and bones, but i have a cherry blossom tree on my entire forearm and i tolerated that pain just fine. anyone have a tattoo there and any suggestions? <3
Well, I have a nice sized tattoo on my inner arm, really close to my elbow and it didn't hurt that bad.
Apparently the inner forearm is a BITCH. I wouldn't know; I have no tattoos there. And where did he get a tattooing LICENSE? As far as I knew, it was a fairly unregulated field. All kinds of retards up here in Cleveland open shops, and they don't need any kind of license. It's a bit ridiculous, really. You can get certified by the APP and whatever association for tattoo artists is, but it's rare that you ever actually find a chop that's certified.
It depends on the area - I know here in england you need a license to open a tattoo parlour. It's mainly so there's standards on things like hygiene, indemnity insurance and the like, not like you need to pass 50 gajillion exams..
Yeah, you HAVE to have a license or else you get shut down. Why koi fish though? That's so generic. If you get a tattoo I always though you should at least do something original.
Are you sure you want to start a sleeve at some point though? Don't change the spot because you fear the pain. The pain is good. Put it where you want it.
actually, in new jersey, idk about where you live- although i thought it was mutual in every state- you MUST have a license to give a tattoo. you absolutely can't without one. and i understand that the koi fish is generic- but it means a lot to me. the story of the koi fish, and how it swam upstream through all the roughness and hard times and still prevailed, that is extremely significant to me. also, my father recently passed away and he had a beautiful koi tattoo on his arm, it was also significant to him. so no it isn't just another generic tattoo for me. thanks guys<3 p.s- nopeee the forearm didnt hurt at all
As long as it means something to you. That's all that matters. Besides, I really like koi fish and most of the koi fish tattoos are really pretty, even if they are common. If you got the tat you should post pics.
I wasn't trying to make you justify it. It's cool if you dig it, and cooler that you have a story behind it. Tattooing is just becoming a weird trend with weird things to be tattooed onto people. Anyways :cheers2:
Not in Ohio, apparently. All you need is a tattoo gun, and you can open a shop. It's pretty fucked up. Like I said, it's widely unregulated here. All you have to have is the State Board of Health say that you have an autoclave and are using the right procedures to maintain cleanliness [not saying that they're ENFORCED, just are available]. There's no required certificates for the individual tattooist or piercer to have to be considered "certified." There's a lotta really shitty places, places that use BMEzine pictures in their portfolio and try and pass them off as their own and claim they have "25+ years of experience" when they're like... 37 years old. Shit's ridiculous. I'm speaking of one place in particular, a stone's throw away from the certified, legit shop I go to. My place is absolutely SPECTACULAR. Nate makes sure everybody's certified by either the APP or APT or whatever. They all have completed courses and courses on anatomy, bloodborne pathogens, CPR, and even shit on like, modern body art, history of body art, and newer procedures like dermal anchors and stuff. Hell, place is called Body Anthology if anybody wants to czech 'em out. They're amazing. This, however, is my understanding of the body mod laws in Ohio. I could be wrong.
