    Hey again,

After I finished school, I want to take a roadtrip (whether it's across America or not) in a real VW. Or a bus, if I really can't FIND a VW:D

What do you guys think? I'll probably be in my 20s. Because I have school, then my further studies, and then maybe the trip?

    Thanks,
    L_S

May the 60's live on :peace:!

try an 80s vw...it's not the sixties anymore

by now a real vw van is old and much more likely to break down. I am a mechanic and personally i would go for a newer van. old vans do have that "je ne sais quoi" but you WILL NOT regret buying something newer

Wow! Of course you can take a road trip in a vintage VW bus. I did exactly what you're planning, and it wasn't the 60's then, either *wink*

By the way, my old bus broke down a couple of times - one of my best road trip memories was of my bus breaking down in Memphis (A loonnng way from my home) and the mechanic who fixed my bus was one of the kindest folk I've ever met. I ended up being stranded for about a week in Memphis while my bus was being repaired - no biggie. I carried out my dream, you deserve to allow your dream to happen.

I'm thinking of getting an old '67, and you'd be surprised; I found a 57 for about $5000 and a good looking one for $8000, while I found two older T2 models (which look pretty hippie too) for $500 and $2800 in the same conditions respectively. The newer ones are less likely to break down and are cheaper, more user friendly, and larger. Hell, you can even put in a split screen if you want.

Yeah old vw buses don't got the reliability they used to man, they break down easy as hell, and there aren't alot of shops that carry parts to em anymore.
