ok so . as much as i want grass to be legal, theres just one thing i don't understand. all the people in jail. i dont know if the government will be able to get around this. i mean, if its legal these people need to be free. will they be? And if the govt does let them out, they are going to owe those people some serious money. They are already in debt as it is so, i just dont know. i hope they figure something out.
I don't think marijuana is going to be legalized anytime soon. I'm pretty sure though, that the law at the time the crime was committed is the abiding law. If I was arrested on charges of possessing 100 pounds of marijuana on January 1 and the law was changed legalizing marijuana in February, I'd still have to fulfill my sentence because I still broke the law. They may lighten the sentence though or something. Also, if it were legal to buy and I bought 100 pounds one day and the next day it became illegal to buy, I committed no crime. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure how that's how it works.
"The anti-marijuana campaign is a cancerous tissue of lies, undermining law enforcement, aggravating the drug problem, depriving the sick of needed help, and suckering well-intentioned conservatives and countless frightened parents. Narcotics police are an enormous, corrupt international bureaucracy ... and now fund a coterie of researchers who provide them with 'scientific support' ... fanatics who distort the legitimate research of others." - William F. Low and behold that dern modern technology, damned if they didn't find out what was on the tapes. Seems it was about rejecting his own Commission report from Republican Governor Shafer. Hemp and medicinal cannabis were legal until the Controlled Substance Ax. The Marihuana Tax Ax was overturned by the Supreme Court in 1969. Nixon lied about the physical properties of cannabis and included non-psychoactive hemp and arbitrarily denied medicinal use to fit it into a schedule#1 classification. Keeps it from Pharmaceutical competition. Drug worriers keep the lie alive, many simply out of stupid blind allegiance. Keeping Americans terrorized, especially unconnected sick people. So the media blasted a two-bit break in as news and nary a word about the bogus scheduling and removal of an historical plant. Shine a light on anyone who tries to remove any check and balance. Outrageous Anti-Pot Lies: Media Uses Disgraceful Cancer Scare Tactics By Paul Armentano, AlterNet. Posted March 10, 2008. Headlines suggested a study proved pot is a greater cancer risk than tobacco -- but the media didn't even wait for the report to be released. For those who actually bothered to read the study's full text, which appeared in the European Respiratory Journal days after the global feeding frenzy had ended, they would have learned the following. Among the 79 lung cancer subjects who participated in the trial, 70 of them smoked tobacco. These individuals, not surprisingly, experienced a seven-times greater risk of being diagnosed with lung cancer compared to tobacco-free controls. As for the subjects in the study who reported having used cannabis, they -- on average -- experienced no statistically significant increased cancer risk compared to non-using controls. U.S. GOVT. "THC's adverse effects on driving performance appear relatively small" -- U.S. Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (DOT HS 808 078), Final Report, November 1993 Cannabis and Driving THC's effects after doses up to 300 g/kg never exceeded alcohol's at BACs of 0.08 g% and were in no way unusual compared to many medicinal drugs (Robbe 1994). Yet THC's effects differ qualitatively from many other drugs, especially alcohol. Evidence from the present and previous studies strongly suggests that alcohol encourages risky driving whereas THC encourage greater caution, at least in experiments. Another way THC seems to differ qualitatively from many other drugs is that the former's users seem better able to compensate for its adverse effects while driving under the influence. -- Hindrik W.J.
