Hey...i hope this isn't on the wrong part of the forum or whatever but it seemed the most appropriate, I guess?
I did a search and couldn't find any related posts so I was hoping someone could help me out :)
I'm going to Dublin for the day (november 7th to be exact), and was wondering if anyone knew about the shops there.
I suppose I'm interested in the more rock/skate/punk...well general alternative shops they have to offer. You know - stuff like clothes, jewellery/accessories...interesting bits and pieces, vinyl (i think you get the picture)
Any information about shops and their general whereabouts would be greatly appreciated - since i'm only there for the day and won't have forever to be trawling around the city looking for interesting stores ^_^

    Thanks in advance

There's a shop in Temple Bar in Dublin called Skate City with a clothes shop next to it with loads of skate clothes and stuff, Temple Bar in general is good for that type of thing, Grafton St is a popular street aswell but less "alternative", at the tope of Fratone St there is the St Stephens Green shopping centre which has a headshop that does lots of punk/rock stuff and there's some other cool shops in there aswell, if you have any other question I'd be only to happy to help.

I don't like shopping. I rather be by myself, with only friends around me. Not too many people. I hate pedestrian streets.

dear pixie needles, i read your message beacause i saw that you are intrested on punk and alternative colthes, and i like also this style. i don`t know where to find rock shops in dublin ,never been there, but i live in germany and here is one of the biggest punk rock comunity and they are also a lot of alternative shops to find.if you are intrested on something particular i can make you photos of the items and if you like them i can send it to you. ore perhaps you can help me...i buy offen stuff from america , but not all the shops are delivering to europe . so i am looking for someone who can buy those stuff ( i send you ofcourse the money first) and send it to me. so ...i would be glad if we could help somehow each other.

You'll find plenty of shops in Temple Bar. Just walk around (and try out all the narrow streets and alleys). If you head up Grafton Street from Trinity College and veer right after a couple of blocks there are a few great record stores hiding in attics and basements of various buildings. Plenty of random merchandise is for sale in this area that might appeal to you. Of course, all you really have to do is stop into a local pub (avoid the ones that have that "Ye Olde Eire" look to them) and ask around while you have a drink. Most folks in Dublin are more than happy to accomodate.

That's very true, where you from Happy Mondays, Manchester maybe like your namesake?

No, I'm from the U.S. Can't say I'm very proud of that at the moment (come to think of it, I'm rarely proud of it except we do have pretty amusement parks, I suppose). I visited Manchester a few years ago, but I've never been overly impressed with England - decent place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. Ireland, however, is a different story. I try to go there as often as possible and would love to figure out a way to move there. I do like the Mondays, though. Even saw Shaun Ryder at a pub in Dublin back in 2000.

I saw them 5/6 years ago at Slane, about 50/60,000 other people there aswell, twas class. Did you try applying for a visa to live over here full-time?? What's it that you like about overhere compared to England anyway?

Last time I checked (and this was a couple of years ago, so it may have changed) I had to already have a job lined up in Ireland to get a visa. Well, I shouldn't say England's all that bad. People in parts of the north are similar to Irish and all I care about, really, is how people are in places I go. I don't care for the south at all and only go when I have a connecting flight through London. All in all, though, England is just a little too testy for me. Not as relaxed as Irish as a general rule (although there are plenty of exceptions to be sure). Also, Ireland has a large proportion of people my own age living there so it just has more of the kind of character I like in a place, I guess.

Oh, and almost everybody is very friendly. Especially if you don't act like a loud and obnoxious American :)

True, Irish people are always giving out about how they were in this country or that country and the people were all a bit reserved or weren't that nice, they just think becuase everyone in Ireland is real friendly the same is true elsewhere. It's one of the few places where you can go into a pub on your own and end up meeting loads of people and having a ball!
