I am thoroughly confused here and a bit worried ;)

Ok. Hemp is low to no THC but marijuana is High THC.
But they are BOTH Cannabis Sativa. ...OR SO THEY SAY...

    Makes sense so far.

But, the confusion part, if you are BUSTED with marijuana, don't they need to TEST it for THC to have an actual court case? And if there is no THC they can measure, how would it be possible for them to charge you for it?

    Now for the worry part.

I know about growing things and cross pollination and such.
If HEMP were to be legalized for growing purposes, I assume there would be a LOT of farmers growing it. And I can also assume that if there were a lot of HEMP being farmed, it would ultimately CROSS with the "good" strains of marijuana, thus contaminating the area with their pollen and bringing down the quality of regular pot so badly that it could create a serious problem for gorilla growers. If all this is actually true, it would seem to me that legalizing the growing of hemp might ruin the pot farmers eventually.

    Anyone know anything?

I dont think its the thc thats illegal, its the bud all-together. The plants don't pollinate giant areas, as long as the hemp and good weed plants don't get too close it wouldn't cause a problem.

Industrial hemp is legal in Canada and there is no shortage of great weed here. As Captain Chronic said; not a problem.

hemp and marijuana are two different plants. yes, they're related, but the difference between the two is like the difference between a tree and a bush, respectively. i really dont think it's possible for any cross-pollination to be going on.

you needn't worry about anything happening to the lovely, lovely mary jane....:D

Hemp and marijuana are the exact same plant, just diffrent strains. Think of dogs, a Great Dane and a Jack Russell might look really diffrent but they are both dogs and could reproduce.

I know from experience that in order for the court to proceed with a conviction, the plant must be TESTED for THC...

Outdoor plants produce pollen which can easily travel 2 miles in any direction by wind or bees. Every male plant has MILLIONS of pollen sacs... That means if you have a female plant and there is ANY other related plant, "hemp" or otherwise, within 2 miles (or possibly more, wind is a funny thing) it could be pollinated. Which wouldn't hurt the existing plant, but the SEEDS are another story. Only thing anyone could do to avoid this is clone. And, yea, maybe the hemp would eventually get you a buzz, and there would be not one thing they could do about it except to re-illegalize it... Maybe that's precisely WHY it's not being legalized.
