I hate to use the word because it's lost it's meaning over time, but i hate emo music. For one, it's stolen the look of goth, and the scene around it makes self harm "cool". But the thing that really grinds my gears is that it is referred to as "Punk". First their were the hippies, who rebelled against the goverment in a way of peace. The hippie movement has since died (mostly) and the last thing left that I could rely on to right wrongs in society was punk. Now, depressed teenagers, crying about not being understood and breaking up with girlfriends, have taken over what is punk! Where has the message - in music - gone?!
Emo is a social way to tear down a society awakening movement, man. Not that I agree with punk but at least they had somethin' to fight for, it's just like how most of the hippies grew up and became average fucks. People know emo's have no power to do anything besides bitch, man. The bark without the bite, hell they don't even bark.... Everytime a potential society changing idea comes into our country it has to be dumbed down, shot in the foot, or fuckin' torn to shreds. The last true movement of change we had in this damn country was during Abraham Lincoln's time, least as far as I'm concerned. The hippies may have gotten a new one goin' but they chickened out, man. Now the punk scene is goin' dead too. And we can't rely on mainstream rock because all of them are selfish idiots, who think they even know a damn thing about what rock n' roll really is and was. Don't even get me started on rap. :toetap05: And then the people who know what is wrong with this fuckin' country aren't willing to do anything about it, plenty of shits on these forums like that. Far as I'm concerned fuck it, man. I'm movin' to Canada....
That's a pity, you start this thread by making clear it's gonna be a rent about the emo music. Then you immediatly go on about the looks and the scene Musically it often has the most in common with punk. Lyrics perhaps not. Not all music has to centre about themes like goverment or society by the way. It doesn't make them less good if a band or genre (as far as a genre chooses ) choose not to.
Emo has to be the dumbest 'fad' ever. Emo is short for emotional, right? Everybody I know has emotions right... So isn't everyone emo? And 'emo' 'music' is usually rich kids bitching about stupid things.
I understand and respect that, but i'm just saying that punk was in the mainstream (people knew about it) and it was sending "good" messages, so I liked that. But now, pretty much all popular music's themes and lyrics are either shallow or egotistical. I like to have fun as well and if good music has bad lyrics, sometimes it can be okay. But I really like to support bands with good messages, and punk was just that.
Meh. I understand you. I like the look TO A POINT, but I really really hate the over the top shit, and I can't stand the bitching... And what I hate even more than that? FUCKING SCENE KIDS. They are the worst thing...
How could scene kids possibly be worse than emo kids/people/whatever? At least they listen to decent music for the most part - not the mindless simple crap you hear on the radio. And they don't buy into the idea that to have any self worth you have to buy all your clothes at grossly inflated prices from Hot Topic or Abercrombie or some such disgusting place. Still, they fail in trying to be unique by trying to be like the other scene kids. Some day they'll be hipsters which, forgive my circular definition, are more or less grown up scene kids.
Youth culture is fascinating to me. I have to admit, I grew up in a pretty small town, bought comics/books/CDs/pot with my money and mostly relied on my parents for clothes... but I always thought it would be so cool to actually have a thing that made me stand out or belong in some way. Emo at least seems to have some semblance of philosophy to it, and that makes it better than a lot of other youth cultural happenings. The whole self-mutilation thing isn't good, nor is trying to have more problems than you actually have, but if it's not hurting anyone, then I"m all for it.
I think the "scene girls" can be cute, but you cant be sure with these people if what your looking at is a women or not, it is a highly emasculated culture. Emos ≠ people 2. emo An entire subculture of people (usually angsty teens) with a fake personality. The concept of Emo is actually a vicious cycle that never ends, to the utter failing of humanity, and it goes something like this: 1. Girls say they like "sensitive guys" (lie) 2. Guy finds out, so he listens to faggy emo music and dresses like a dork so chicks will see that he is sensitive and not afraid to express himself (lie). He dyes his hair black, wraps himself in a stupid looking scarf, develops an eating disorder, and rants about how "nobody understands". 3. Now an emo guy, he meets Emo chick and they start dating, talking about how their well-off suburban lifestyles are terrible and depressing (lie) 4. Emo guy is just too much of a pussy. His penis is too small, he's too depressed to bathe, and has more mood swings than emo chick, and he doesn't even have a menstrual cycle. Emo chick dumps him, saying "It's not you, it's me." (lie) as she drives off with Wayne, the school jock and captain of the football team. 5. Emo guy goes home and cries, proceeds to write a weak song and strum a single string on his acoustic guitar. Another emo chick sees how he is so in touch with his feelings, and the cycle continues. This is the sad truth of the emo lifestyle/music, and now that I look at how pathetic it really is, maybe the emos DO have something to cry about! When she sees how sensitive and emo I have become, she'll definately go out with me! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8HZNO9A6TQo
Woah, that reminded me of a concert i was at - I saw this scenster swinging his arms around and punching the ground - what's that all about?
I remember when "emo" first erupted on the scene, and there were only a couple sparsed within my community. Music definitely helps in the progression of fads... I have to say, I really don't appreciate the music. I find it repulsive and it gives me a headache. I tend to generalise emo's... but then again, some people will do anything to fit in... I don't really know what emo music is around right now. I thought it was dying down. At least in Sydney anyway...
