Hey all, Im new here and fairly new to meditation. i just started to meditate using a CD where a bell is lightly struck every 5.8 seconds to signal a change between inhaling and exhaling (apparently this is the interval of time where the sympathetic nervous system and para sympathetic nervous system can line up ie the optimal rate of breathing and also happens to be the rate at which many Tibetan monks breathe while meditating. Regardless of the method, while I was meditating, i felt my fingers start to tingle, up to the point where i felt tons of energy build up in my hands. It got to to the point where it was almost too intense, especially when I attempted to come out of the meditation and move my body. It was also interesting in that even though i am a pianist, i physically was unable to play the piano for the next five minutes..there was just too much going on in my hands. I'm wondering what kind of energy this is, if this is normal etc and also if there are smoother ways to come out of a meditation so that i dont freak myself out. Thanks for the help!
I went into meditation one day and never came out of it. When you change normal breathing patterns, you will also change things like blood oxygenation. Too much or too little can create many different sensations in mind and body. As for your hands, they are a main focal point for you because you are a musician. Me thinks you are meditating on your hands and not meditating on meditation. Don't attempt to do things when you end a session. Enjoy the afterglow before you're pulled back into the world. Don't jump. You'll be pulled soon enough. x
You were short on carbon dioxide. Like when you hyper ventalate. If you would have kept going you would have then felt tingleing in other places, nose, lips, ect. Then would come metacarpal spasms, where your fingers would become stiff and you would not have been able to move them, then, you pass out. My suggestion would be to breath at your own pace. It seems like this is not a good pace for you.
Try meditating without the CD. The 5.8 sec interval sounds annoying to me. Your parasympathetic nervous system is activated when you breathe slowly from your diaphragm, vs the sympathetic fast and shallow chest breathing. Just breathe slowly in through your nose, then out through your mouth.
