    sooooooooooooooooooooooooo

i got a few locks that arent so locked. root.. tangle.. and then about 6-7inches of normal, pre dread hair (wavy, smooth, no knots, brushable etc)

im hoping & praying that these ones will take the natural route and sort themselves out.. ive decided to wait about 6 months, and if nothings happened then ill backcomb or t&r them

but my question.. beads wont stay on these cause theres nothing to keep them on. will wraps a) be suitable on them, and b) will they do anything to help knot up?

I've got several dreads at the back of my head that are like that - dready at the root and about 4-5 inches of undreaded hair (they were originally backcombed loosely but it fell out). The loose hair is just starting to dread naturally. Its a really wierd process. Its like the dreaded part slowly eats up the undreaded hair by wrapping it and folding it upwards (if that makes sense).

My advice would be to just leave hem for a few months and see what happens - out of curiosity if nothing else.

Failing that, you could always cut them off and make a wig... :D

Sounds like some of my dreads. I actually T&R'd I think three that were really not dreaded or anything at all, but other than that I'm just letting them stay straight in hopes that they stay wispy and long when my dreads grow out. :S Not an answer to your question I guess, just letting you know I have the same.

Those that held together are well dreaded now. They've shrunk alot (by wrapping themselves up) and are pretty tight.

Those backcombs that fell out are pretty much going the natural route. They're a couple months behind the others but are definitely dreading up... slowly.

so my guestimate at waiting about 6 months for something to happen was nearly right, tbh im not overly fussed at the fact thats its all undreading. i just hope that somethings ganna happen

I haven't got any pics of my own I can show you to illustrate what I mean by undreaded hair shrinking and being sucked up, but check out this link. This demonstrates it beautifully.

This time line is NOT ME btw, but it does clearly show the dreading process in action.

Also, diferent hair types dread differently. This woman's hair is really fine, like mine, and her hair wraps itself up (and shrinks) like mine. Yours might be different. I've heard it said that thick hair doesn't shrink anywhere near as much.

    Hope its useful.

thanks for that link, its made me feel a bit better =]

my natural hair is really thick.. the hairdressers always used be like 'nah its quite thin really..' and then they started to mess with it 'oh.. you have got a lot..'

my front ones are like that. growing out as dreads but about 6inches of normal glossy hair. doesn't look like it's gonna knot up anytime soon but I wouldn't bc it or tnr. Just think how nice it will look when they get longer!

ok smelly, im gonna try to make you feel better. this was my hair at 6 months:

this is 8 months, after twist and ripping the loose parts of the dreads on top:

the twist and ripping wasnt necessary, but it worked. i just have super slow to knot hair. the ones that i didnt twist and rip turned out awesome too with a little more time (and are more interesting looking).

so dont worry, theres nothing wrong with your dreads :)

everyone seems to be missing the point =[

i dont mind the fact that the ends are really loose and unknotty etc etc, i was just wondering if there was any point in putting wraps on them?!

but yessm, those pics do make me feel better, thankyoo

    and youre just mean :p

well in regard to wraps, i wouldnt put them in. no one seems to really know if they help or hinder locking... but they would prevent shrinking and looping i would think, and for me at least, thats what my ends wanted to do.
so idk, its your call i guess. you could always wrap some and see if it works better than leaving others free.

smelly, i think individual wraps would prevent movement of your hair. the only thing that i think a wrap would do is make the shape of your locks rounder, but it definitely will not help them mat up any faster.
