im looking into getting a new wired router; my dlink di-604 works great, but i have filled up my port forwarding entries and need more. i bought a linksys befsx41 a while back but was highly dissapointed by the lack of static dhcp reservations and functionality. i was looking into the linksys cisco RVS4000, but they are getting terrible newegg reviews, and a friend said he has issues with his WRT440N. also considering the dlink DGL4100, theres some open box ones on newegg for 35 bucks, down from 100. also a DL724GU is looking good, but i dont need the wireless. the RVS4000 has the most ideal set of features at the price, but functionality is the deciding factor here. what are you guy's thoughts on a router model/ your preference of manufacturer?
i would suggest linksys or netgear only because they are the easiest to configure, in fact there should be no configuration except for your port forwarding or static ips, etc. i was looking at the ones you mentioned and was wondering why dont you go with a cheaper one?? by your post you say that all you really need is port forwarding and dhcp functionality? why dont you go with a cheap linksys Etherfast, it has all the features you need and only costs around $60. also may i make a suggestion? instead of messing with forwarding ports, look into dmz configurations, it has the same effect with much less hassle (less secure too).
Linksys WRT54GL. It's actually wireless, but you will never have to reboot it, never have signal drop, and it will live longer than you or I. There is also a WRT54G and others of that series. The series is good but the single best router for your dollar is the WRT54GL. The "L" means Linux, I think. I can testify for this because I own this router and will use no other. The box came with a sticker on it that states it uses open source software. never has it failed
hahaha, i would have expected no less from you adderall assasin the RVS4000 from linksys runs linux. i really like all its features, im thinking maybe maybe the majority of the bad reviews on newegg are from earlier firmware releases and ID10T's... im probably gonna go for it.
