Whats going on everyone. This is my first post but I have been checking these forums since I started my dreads. Lots of awesome help here, thanks everyone. So I thought it would be nice to show you how they are coming along along with ask a few noob questions.

Does anyone know whats up with all the loose hairs on the top of my head? and know of anything to do about it?

Also, the dreads on the back that meet up with my neck are nice dreads, but there is so much hair growing around them, can barely seem em. And also, the back of my head has many spots that are just, i dunno, not covered by the dreads. Does anyone else have that problem?

    SO COOl!
I have red hair too!... thought I'd share that!
In good time the loose hairs will join up or create their own dread.
What method did you use? looks insane either way

I think your dreads look incredible!
    peace

    Thanks.

On day one my friend back combed them on evening. Then after that I just wash em every once in a while and when they are almost dry I sometimes twist and roll em to kinda shape em. Not really to much. I would like to get them a little neater on the back side on my head. Any suggestions?

    Sweet!

crotcheting is a method people use to tidy up dreads. Its where you use a crotchet needle and pull the loose hairs through a dreads. It helps get rid of loose hairs, you can find how to do this properly on youtube.

Some people believe that this can be damaging for your dreads. But many people on this forum have done it without any issues. Perhaps wait for all their opinions on it. They will give more insight aswell. I think felting is also a way to tidy up dread.. I am unsure about that one though.

How old are your dreads? Looks like you have had them for quite sometime?

for about 13 months now. At first I washed them like every weeks or so, then it became cold outside and then I moved to alaska for the past four months and washing is way to cold haha. Do you know of a good wash method, as far as soap/shampoo goes? I used Dr. Bronners but it kinda makes them feel weird.

Yea bronners can do that. Some people it works wonders and others it leaves a weird feeling, it depends on your water. If the liquid soap doesn't work you could always try the bar soap. For some it works for others it doesn't. I got between peppermint bronners and a different brand natural instinct.

Good wash method? Wash with your palms and not your fingers.. avoid any running of your fingers through your hair and only clean hair will dread. Obv you hair is dreaded but it may help for the loose hairs on top.

For the crotcheting look through this thread http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=357179&page=1
if you ignore the bickering their actually is some useful information on their.

ooooooh purdy *is attracted to redheads*

the frizzys on top can be tamed with aloe, or you can crochet them in, or you can leave em and love em =]

youre dreads are sooo sexy! they are really well locked and i love the red.

im just gonna go ahead and say i really like the loose hair, i think it looks nice.

yes, some will join into the other dreads naturally or make mini dreads of their own, but others will also grow to take their places, so you never really escape from that little bit of frizz.

if you wanna get rid of it though, crocheting is your best bet, or sewing with a tapestry needle. i tried the needle method last weekend and it worked really well. both are pretty tricky to do on yourself though.
anyway, love your hairs, good luck with them :)

dont get rid of the loose hairs...they are crazy wild and beautiful. Just like you I gather. DReads have a way of forming to fit ones personality. They suit you and are sexy.

The loose hairs look fine really. But if you feel that you must do something about them, they're a perfect length for my needle method...

They look great to me. I'm going to go with the others and say not to bother doing anything about the loose hairs unless they're really bothering you. I think they might get a little less anyway over time with continued washing, either by getting sucked into other dreads or creating new ones. Anyway now you've started posting, don't stop! This place needs more people.

leave the loose hairs alone they are meant to be there
your a redhead, so fair skinned easily sunburned i bet
crochetting does do dammage (felting way way way more ..dont do it, it makes no sence)
but regardless of dammage it will expose scalp..burn..ouch and all that (maybe even cancer)
but besdsides that the loose hairs will join dreads on theyre own or form new dreads (u need anouther inch or so)
baby dreads between dreads help make it look more natural, with varying sizes they fuill in the gaps

ive had mine nearly 19 years, and every 8 months or so i find a dozen or more baby drewads popping up all over in the gaps
the result is a thick head full of dreads instead odf a small number of thick backcombed dreads, all the gaps between the dreads get filled in with new dreads
you should start seeing that stuff ontop beginninbg to dread on its own in a few months

when u rip though..more fuzz will be born..it will then grow and be reborn as dreads or join a existing dread..
think of it as the cycle of life

the fuxzz is the sperm spilled on the seed of yopur scalp its an embvgryo soon to take shape as a new baby dread

    dont abort it
    thats all i can say

    SE, you are crazy lol
I love loose hairs, your dreads look awesome! I can't see it on yours in the pictures you posted but I have seen it before where people have gaps in between each dread. I think I may have one or two >.< I'd also know why this is on some and not others. It may be the way they were sectioned? I think crotcheing could make that worse though..
    oh, and welcome^____^
