Its about respect at the end of the day. By all means say what you like in a public forum, but don't expect everyone to be happy about it when it turns rude and abusive.

The whole of Hip Forums is about free speech, but free speech isn't about shooting your mouth off whenever you please and not having to deal with the consequences.

With free speech comes responibility and accountability. Stating that you have the right to say what you like to whom you like in a public place while expecting impunity, is all a bit adolescent.

The fact that many can't seem to accept SE and just agree to disagree when his views clash with theirs, I find all a little adolecent too. By all means tell him you don't agree with his view, but if you want to get personal don't expect the rest of the forum users to enjoy being privvy to it.

 

Agreed!!!! SE and I have had our go-arounds on plenty of issues..but this "argument" was indeed rude and senseless. Fact...he can put anything he damn well wants as his siggy quote..who the fuck really cares!!!! ( he did change it, and the argument continued)
Is SE correct to think that he is singled out...I do believe so. There are plenty of posts and people I dont care much for in this forum..but I do not begin threads to jump start the bullshit. (not saying that was Zillas intention, but it was to be expected with all the past SE drama) Now there are a few other bullshit threads that have popped up...just to take a go at someone else's expense.....indeed childish! Think some folks need a damn hobby and this forum is in great need of a new mod to eliminate the bullshit!

This is what people have been saying in regards to some of SE's posts for months. It works both ways, but somehow in one situation it's an attack, and in another it's completely called for.

Who said they didn't expect people to respond back to what they are saying? This is what I don't understand; I have no problem with people challenging my beliefs, my ideas, my opinions, etc. As long as they do it in a way that makes sense, I don't mind having a contentious discussion. But for some reason, if anyone challenges SE's beliefs, ideas, opinions, etc. it's crossing some huge line and you shouldn't expect any answers other than a bunch of people essentially telling you to fuck off.

I don't think this is fair at all. I haven't seen anyone in a long time make a personal attack on SE. I for one barely know the guy, all I know about him is what I read from here. I am not attacking his character or calling him a horrible person, it doesn't have to do with him as a person.

I will say what I said in the crochet hook thread; I think people who want the drama to "go away", are just adding to the drama themselves without realizing. If you really wanted all the arguing to disappear, then you shouldn't have posted in this thread (because that, essentially, makes more "drama"). I'm not saying you shouldn't have posted, but it totally contradicts your position in this thread. I also think some of the Drama h8erz need to stop expecting drama from "some group" of people and stop making mountains out of little mole hills. It doesn't get dramatic until someone storms in with an outcry of, "O-M-G!!! Stop H8ing on my frendzzzzz!!!".

So I think we could all take a leaf out of one another's book, especially since we are essentially arguing the same points!

 

Then please do tell me why you would even care what a siggy said? Was it offensive? Did you find that it rubbed you the wrong way? Are you concerned that SE's typos might erupt into a frenzy of unruly alphabets taking over the forums?

ok rougette pretty much voiced my general attitude and thoughts.
but i also see what you mean hedge (and others) about hating on one member and that is indeed not cool.
but i still maintain that there is nobody here who makes it their purpose to bash soaringeagle or stir up drama. things have been said (by me and others) that are rude and confrontational, but it never had that intent.

im not gonna try and turn this around and say soaringeagle has behaved worse than anyone on this forum during these debates (well ok maybe i did just say that)... but what i mean is, i dont think that is an excuse for disrespectful behaviour and i apologize for any such behaviour that can be attributed to me.


btw, i really dont care if anyone thinks im part of some exclusive clique... but if you think that, you must not have been on very many other internet forums, and so do not understand what real forum cliques look like.
