For the past five and a half years my penis has been slowly shrinking.

At first I thought that it was all in my head , that my hands had gotten fatter or something but eventually it became so noticeable that I measured my erection and saw it was 5cm( about 2 inches) shorter than it used to be.(measuring it the exact same way)

It seems to have stopped shrinking now but I still feel pretty bad about it. I was quite comfortable with the size it used to be and now feel insecure. I don't see how I could discuss this with my doctor and I've looked all over medical websites and can't find any symptom like this.

Coincidentally or not this happened at the same time as I had some family troubles which caused a depression I'm still trying to get out of, I stopped practicing sports so I lost my athletic looks, my hair started falling out(even pubic hair is considerably thinner) , developed an eating disorder(1 meal per day) and haven't had a girlfriend since.

I want to think that these are all related but I can't find anything to confirm it. Has anyone ever heard of something like this or have any ideas on how to treat it?

Your hair can fall out if you aren't eating enough. I dunno about that other stuff. I would say eat, get healthy, and talk to your doctor. It's his job to deal with all those awkward questions, and I'm sure he gets as many as you can think of.

Maybe you're just not getting fully erect because you're not able to get as turned on being depressed. But it would probably be a good idea to get your hormone levels checked, especially since you've acknowledged you're not eating right and have other signs of ill health.

being depressed for long periods of time is going to take a toll on you as you know. i'm not surprised that your penis is shrinking but it seems to me that greycells is correct on the reason. exercise and a good diet will go a long way to getting you back to where you were. of course there's a reason for your depression and that's what you have to overcome to get over all this and get your penis back to its original size. try to not to focus on your symptoms so much as focusing on what will bring you back to health.

Thanks for the replies, I also think that my improper diet is partly responsible, I've been eating normally(no less than 2 meals per day) ever since my doctor put me on ulcer medication after puking blood a couple of weeks ago.

As for the penis shrinkage I've finally found some information concerning it : http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/183583 seems like it might be caused by a hormonal imbalance. I'll talk about it with an endocrinologist since I'm not too confortable with my family doctor.

But it's somehow reassuring to know I'm not the only one with this problem.

I am a 48 year old paraplegic (for 33 years) but an otherwise healthy man until i got diabetes 1 year ago, i've always been o.k. with the size of my erection (6" long x 2" thick) but when relaxed i was always smaller then everybody (even as a child / young man), a few years it started shrinking / withdrawing into my body however the size of my erection remained unchanged, i used to have an erection every night and morning but now rarely (if ever) and never hard enough to be usefull, but worse is that my penis shrinks / withdraws exactly like a frightened turtle into it's shell leaving barely my little head sticking out and a pile of skin / sheath, i also had a male yeast infection a year ago which did not help matters either - but - keep in mind this all started long before the diabetes or yeast infection, does anyone know how to reverse what is happening to me ? my urologist is very unhelpful and has no intelligent comments only to suggest a surgical implant where i'd be hard 24/7 (not a bad idea) but also warns of a 20-25% chance that the implant will beak thru the head of my penis, PLEASE, does anybody have any ideas on how to help me help myself ? i'm ashamed but desperate enough to go semi public with my question, please e.mail me with any and all ideas or suggestions or questions or stories or pics to steveearl@shaw.ca

    First suggestion: stop panicking.
Second suggestion: keep close tabs on your diabetes. Even if you say that your penis “got smaller” before the diabetes was diagnosed it doesn't mean that you weren't a diabetic then. Diabetes really f*s people's sex lives. Taking meds regularly can slow it down as well as other symptoms.
As for better sex life, lack of erection doesn't have to mean the end of your sex life. Find a doctor who treats you seriously because this one either doesn't want to help you or doesn't know how. There are for example temporary solutions like pumps. But you have to decide what is more important to you shame or pleasure.

might be the depression. you could try living a more active lifestyle and eating more meat/aphrodisiacs. shrinkage doesn't make any sense to me. it's probably just decreased blood flow. i'm no doc though.

Believe in yourself. Exercise, diet are hugely helpful, also an experience of joy, ecstasy, fun, satisfaction and the gratitude that come with these will restore you to where you were or better. This is a painful time for you, but also an opportunity. I suggest service to others, animal or people. Seriously, you will be amazed how it improves your life and outlook. Also, I suggest soul searching in which you ask, what is it that I can do best... what is my gift to the world?

Then, take steps every day to do that. Good luck!

I saw your post here Body&Brains and I`m gonna tell you that I have very similar symptoms. Once my penis was 17 to 18cm long an then it shrank about 5cm. I also noticed that my fingers became shorter and my hair started falling out all over my head, even at sides and at the back of the head. I was 26 when it happened and now i`m 31 and the issue is still exists. Well, I`m not sure that we are both suffering from the same medical problem, but at least the symptoms are very similar. Of course I have visited many doctors since then and did many lab tests plus my endocrinologist has his own opinion on that matter. All I can say for sure that the case is not in the proper nutrition.
Have you seen any improvements and how do you feel yourself now? Maybe you`ve already managed to cope with your issue and everything is fine now. Anyway, feel free to contact me and we could discuss it.
