I saw this guy on the Colbert Report the other night. http://www.chooseresponsibility.org/ That's his website. I just thought some of you might want to check it out.
Drinking age is 19 in most provinces and 18 in a few. Once I turned 19 I begin drinking less, and once I discovered psychedelics I pretty much kicked drinking, other then a few beers now and then. It's stupid as hell that you can vote at 18, smoke at 18 but you can't enjoy a few wobbly pops until you are 21.
Once I turned 19 a few years ago my friends & I used to take day trips & go up to Canada & buy cases of like Molson XXX & shit like that & just drive back over to the states. So you know, if you're in the states & youre between 19 & 21 you can always just do that if you're close enough to Canada.
If the drinking age is lowered everything would be easier man I'm underage and I drink at parties just cause I know it's "bad ass" lmao they need to legalize pot too that shit is chronic!!! peace
i personally think its a bad idea. i think alcohol should be totally outlawed. so many bad things come from it. that said, im 19 and drink a couple times a week.
fuck that. I saw Colbert too. Its not a good thing to drink. Im an alcoholic and I dont even say this is good
Outlawing substances doesn't work...they tried this already, and continue to today. Drugs and alcohol are here to stay and our society must accept that, rather than punishing people for choosing what they do to their bodies.
Alcohol is far too common to be outlawed, just look at how successful prohibition was in the '30s! It created gangs, helped fuel the depression, and didn't work. We realized it was a bad idea and got rid of it a few years later, and now there is an amendment in the constitution that says we can't ban alcohol. FAIL
I would almost guarantee you if alcohol was discovered now it would be made illegal & there would be bootleggers & a black market for it like back in the day.
yea i agree prohibition doesnt work i just meant that i think alcohol has had a horrible impact on society especially compared to drugs like weed
If you can be sent to war and die for this country at 18, you damn well should be able to enjoy a beer if you please.
I turned 21 in...what was it? '84? Anyhow, it was at about the time they were raising the drinking age to 21. I was all for it, because I thought it would make the bars less crowded. I was wrong. Went to HS in PA, just north of the Maryland line. Drinking age in PA has always been 21, in Maryland it was 18. We used to go to MD to buy beer, or sometimes sneak into bars. I don't see States lowering the drinking age, and loosing their Federal highway funds, or FedGov allowing states with a drinking age below 21 to receive highway funds. We'll see legal pot first.
Alright, I'll concede to that point. Overall alcohol does do alot of harm (drunk driving, addiction, violence), but prohibition is NOT the way to go
Everything has a negitive effect on society though when you think about it, even driving cars or having kids, nothing we do will ever make society picture perfect nothing, and without alcohol just think of how many people would do anything to have it, just like a junkie will sell their soul/mind and body for their next fix, thats why we can;t eliminate anything totally
IM kinda iffy on this issue. on the one hand, there is the points- You can go to war and die at 18 you can smoke cigarettes which have very bad health effects at 18. you can vote for the leader of our country 18 Go sit in the prison with murderers and rapists at 18. but you cant drink some beer? yeah, it dosen't seem right. but at the same time, alcohol in itself is really not a good thing, and the lower people start drinking the more chance they got for alcoholism and the more risk of alcohol related crimes there are. but at the same time, i mean people under 21 manage to get alcohol anyway, and not everyone who drinks is a violent drunk driving alcoholic. so i mean, make it illegal, no i don't tihnk thats the answer, or ever was for any substance, it just creates more problems associated with black market activity on top of the effects of alcohol or any other drug made illegal. im more on the side of yeah make it 18, but i do see negative side effects coming of it.
This might be true in some cases, but most people think and one of the reasons for advocating this, is that the young will learn responsibility easier at this age. Like, they say the kids in France drink wine with all their meals, except they were brought up with it from whenever they were children.
^18 where I live too. In some european countries it is 16. IMO and my friends agree- Underage drinking is the best(most fun) kind of drinking.
19 where I live, but most people I know get their fake id's and go to bars and buy it anyways, so does the drinking age really matter? People always get drunk and to be honest I'd rather people get drunk then shooting up smack or smoking crystal, which effects are way worse than alcohol and there is no age limit, dealers don't ask for id.
