I just visited San Francisco last week to see some family, and even tho I've been there once before, this time I was blown away. The architecture is awesome. Backpacking trails, redwoods, and the beach are no ore than an hour away. The air actually smelled clean, unlike in these midwestern cities where I know I've entered into city limits when I breathe in some god-awful stench. The food, holy fuck, is so fresh. Awesome wild-caught fish. I had raw fish sushi for the first time and was afraid to try my spicy tuna roll b/c fish just ain't fresh out here. Fresh, quality produce all the time, ethnic and vegetarian cuisine galore. In-N-Out Burger. Music scene, arts and culture, open minds. I came home depressed and so excited at the same time knowing that my lover and I are moving to the west coast in 1.5 years.
I've yet to go to the East Coast, but I'd have to say my two favorite cities thus far are Williamsburg, Virginia (which I live about 20 minutes from - awesomeness) and Munich Germany. Williamsburg - I love the colonial area. I've played colonial/revolutionary war field music for about 10 years, love the ruggedness, "real" living style of the colonial era, the architecture, the dirt roads, the horses, the shops where people actually gather the wool, spin it and sew dresses by hand, make leather shoes. It's just awesome and beautiful. Munich - well, the city is just too awesome to describe. Art, History, Architecture, Restaurants, Cafes, Breweries, Gardens, Culture, the Alps - it's all there.
Nelson BC. I love all the heritage buildings, the mountains that surround the city and the lake & beaches. It has culture and music and art and theater and dance and shopping and hippies and vegetarian restaraunts....love it all.
I've never really been to a city I really liked. I don't along well (mentally) when there's a lot of people around. I think I'll stick to Momma nature.
I become withdrawn and mentally clouded when I'm around large groups of people such as in some of my classes or at arena-sized concerts. However, I feel pretty comfortable in large cities and enjoy smiling at and making light convo with all the people walking and such. So what's your favorite place in nature?? mandyland-I did get to go to Berkeley for a day last week and got some fine falafel and an excellent pair of pants. The boost in confidence was nice from the rasta incense vendors on Telegraph, even tho they were just sweet talking me into buying some goods. Lots of dreads in Berkeley. bcmama- How far from Vancouver is Nelson? I had some greens last time I was in Toronto that was mail-ordered from your coast.. WOO and Virginia... beautiful state, but I'd rather stick to living off the beatiful land there than venturing into any cities. Williamsburg sounds alright to visit, tho.
My favorite city is Barcelona, Spain, for the yummy vegetarian food, the Mediterranean Sea, the night life, the kind people, the beautiful architecture, the Ramblas with its human statues, Gaudi's trippy park, the great shopping, the cheap beer, and the hot men and lots of dreadheads too!
Adelaide, where I live. Incredibly small city in comparison to the big citys around the world. However something about it is just special. I can't put my finger on it but when ever you are in the city you feel all "wow, I really feel at home here" Hard to explain
I live in Lincoln (UK) at the mo, and while not my absolute fav city in the world, it has such an oldy-worldy feel about the place I can't help but love it. The cathedral is stunning. Its built on the top of a hill with the rest of the city surrounding it, and you can see it for miles. These sweet little houses are over 800 years old!
I nearly said London actually... but in more of a "It's my favourite city as long as I have plenty of money and can get the hell out of it when I want to (and there are no chances of getting blown up)" kind of way lol I'm sure if Venice had no tourists, and if I had actually been there, it would probably be my favourite city. Pics of it hurt my beauty nerve.
Paris. There is something about that city, just the smell of the air, the whole vibe. As soon as I get off the plane I feel fulfilled
