lately i've been getting stomach cramps and feeling really bloated... it may be gas i think ? anyway are there any natural things i can take or do to relieve these symptoms?
Charcoal tablets absorb gas, but don't take them regularly, they also absorb other medicine and nutrients. Simethicone works great (ie Phazyme, Gas-X), and it only passes through your body, it is not absorbed.
well i just recently becamse a vegetarian... so no meat for the past week. i do still eat everything else though... ? i don't know if that helps, i should probably keep better track of what i stuff in my face every day.
yeah, a major change in diet like that could cause some problems. by vegetarian, does that mean that you're eating a primarily vegetable diet? or are you eating starchy foods and junk foods? i was going to mention leaky gut syndrome, but it's likely that your problems are being caused by your eating pattern shift. why did you become vegetarian, if you dont mind my asking?
Eliminate dairy. It can destroy your digetstive system. I stopped eating dairy about 14 years ago, and after about 6 months without it, I got a LOT healthier. My GI problems were much better and my allergies got better. Some people can tolerate dairy, but it really wasn't meant for humans, dairy is for baby cow. Cutting down won't do it. Stopping dairy for a week or two won't. You have to get serious and elimiate it completely. After I detoxed off of dairy, I was able to put butter back into my diet in small amounts. But I don't eat ANY other dairy. Try it, you have nothing to lose, except your tummy problems.
I became vegetarian for a few reasons... mainly to protest the meat industry... and also for health reasons (haha on me for this post...) anyway! I've upped my veggie intake since cutting out meat, but i still eat some junk food ( i love sweets, but don't eat much fried food ) I've been trying to get more fiber too, which I thought would help with stomach problems... I am still eating dairy and eggs, though. I've heard a lot lately about dairy being so bad for you so i may look into cutting it out, but that will be very difficult for me right now... I'm actually having stomach problems today too not fun... I'm starting a food journal today so i can try to see what's going on and also to make sure i'm getting the vitamins and everything that I need.
a food journal is a great idea. are you doing one online? fitday.com has a free food journal thingy with lots of charts. if you're eating more vegetables than you're used to, it may take a while for your gut to adjust to the extra fiber. may i suggest that you consider including some lacto-fermented foods in your vegetarian journey? they're very good for the gut. http://www.***********/2004/jan/3/fermented_foods.htm http://www.westonaprice.org/foodfeatures/lacto.html i dont want to get into the whole veggie vs meatie debate thing, but many people have found that it's healthier for their own bodies to include meat in their diets (i'm in this category ). i hear ya on wanting to protest the meat industry though. some of the things that are done on factory farms are just insane.

If you cut out meat and are eating more earthen foods you have probably increased the amount of cellulose you are eating and humans can not digest it, we just don't have the biologic capabality like cows do(multi chambered stomaches). So what happens? We do have some bacteria in out gut that can digest some of it and the by product is methane gas so we end up farting some of it out, the rest just helps to keep everything down there moving in a good fashion.
