    How do you "black" email?
I'm not just being an ass, I'm really not sure what you're trying to say.

As for virus scan software, its mostly worthless because the people who create viruses aren't stupid and program them to disable popular virus scanners or make them blind to the virus, or even just make it impossible for the software to remove it.

I've never had, nor have I known anyone who has had, a virus that any popular virus software could do a damn thing about.

Just use linux. Its a bit of a pain to learn but you won't get a virus again unless you're really, really unlucky and happen upon some rare linux virus or something.

run linux and you can look at whatever emails and viruses without getting infected

everyday a new windows threat (or many) emerges, yet ppl still use and and still complain about it...

ditto man, learn using linux and you are over once and for all with 99.9% of all viruses, worms, trojans, malware and common windows exploits who nag MS addicts. also you will be rewarded by not having to cyclically reinstall the operating system because all the apps you installed messed up the system, or because of unknown reasons that bring windows to the point of not working any longer. a linux installation does not get slower over the years and only very critical system updates who happen over tenths of years can bring you to the point that it easier reinstalling a new copy rather than updating it... i am talking of libc. it is feasible anyway.

there have been in the past "linux viruses" but by their own nature and because of stricter low level linux security (root account;file permissions; possibly chroot jails, L.i.d.s. and more) they are targeted to vulnerable web servers. there are some kind of backdoors but it is not so simple to get them installed on someone else's computer. resort to reliable software source and the problem disappears. anyway if you're concerned with security, and if you consider that the only really safe computer is the one powered off, disconnected and closed in a vault in an underground bunker, linux is the ideal compromise today between security, stability and usability. of course if you are not planning to run the latest windows videogames on your iron...

sorry i didnt get back and say thanks! thanks!
apparently avg did not find any thing but when the particular email was deletedand in the sent messages also it fixed the prob.

now as far as linux, i just recently received a copy of umbuntu, and have tried it with out installing, but it is so sloooowww, ( i asked about this in anouther thread!) im a little nervous about installing it alongside of windows! and dont want to commit to getting rid of windows alltogether till i get used to it,
my pc is setup with ntfs, any pointers, suggestions, warnings? thanks!
(cant do mutch about my dads hes 850mi away but if i learn more maybe next time i visit)
    thanks!

The reason it was slow is because it was running from the CDROM drive. The CD drive is slow and considered a major bottleneck. With Linux installed to the hard drive, it will be much faster. Everything will be faster.

If you have NTFS across the whole drive, you will want to first do a defrag from Windows. Then put in the Ubuntu disc and let it resize the NTFS partition. I'd recommend 15-20 Gb at a minimum for Ubuntu. This is plenty of space for the OS and applications, but leaves a bit of space for your personal files like mp3's. I have allocated +800 Gb over two hard drives for Linux and all my files.

A setup guide after Ubuntu is installed.

and another great thing about linux is all the software is free, and open source so you can edit it/tune it according to your liking.

Indeed. I have a dual boot setup with Ubuntu on one of the hard drive partitions. It runs much faster than windows, no contest. In particular it boots much faster - I always hate having to wait like 10 minutes for my computer to start up windows so I usually end up using Ubuntu instead - which takes maybe a minute or two to boot up completely.
