So, i'm going to get dreads this month with backcombing method. After backcombing the hair, do i have to use dread wax? Or i can just keep them natural. I guess with backcombing method there'll be a bit more struggle with keeping the loose hair in dread, but i'd rather struggle then turn my dreads in to candles. I've heard all kinds of horror stories about wax, theoretically, if i don't over use it, it'll be all good, but i'm afraid of myself. Can i just use aloe vera just after my hair has been backcombed and then use nothing, just a tool to get my loose hair back into dread? I want to keep them as natural as i can, that's why i decided that i don't want to wax them, but i didn't really know if it's possible not to use wax after backcombing. That would be all for now, i think i had more questions, i'll try to remember them. Thanks in advance. :cheers2:
You don't haveto do anything. The cool thing about locks, I feel, is that the process is unique to the individual. Personally, I won't go anywhere near wax, and I like aloe for frizz control. I crochet my locks no more than once a month.
It's 100% possible not to use wax after any method. If you want to keep them as natural as possible, is there any particular reason for not just going the full natural method? Also, I've generally got the impression that the twist&rip method may be followed by less falling out than backcombing
you do NOT have to use wax. in fact, your dreads will tighten up faster if you don't use it. also, if you DO decide to use it and use too much, it can cause major problems because it's VERY hard to get out, and it creates a water barrier that traps moisture and dirt in your dreads, which leads to nastiness, smelliness, and sooner or later, MOULD. Yuck. i used wax the day of the initial backcombing, just because when you first backcomb, it's FRIZZY, but then i never used it again, and havn't since - also, if you are going to use wax the first day, don't buy any! i have 3 tubs of the stuff, i'll send mine to you! LOL Second Question: Aloe Vera. i have used it on and off and don't find that it really makes much difference with or without it. i love the knotty boy stuff because it smells delicious, but i have found in general, that i really can't bother myself to slather it on.... but if you want to use it, it won't damage your dreads at all. it can actually be very good for your dreads. as for taming the frizzies, you just have to be patient. they will over time get sucked into your dreads if you just leave them alone. if they really bother you, you can use beads or hemp string to tie the roots together.... but i havn't ever put anything in my hair to keep the frizzies down, and after each shower, my dreads just slowly seem to get tighter. the biggest thing is just to be patient, and keep them clean. hope that helped!
Thanks people. I have really curly and thick hair, so i think i'll wax them only after the backcombing and after that i'll just take good care of them. Heads you live, could you seriously send me one, because i'm not paying 15$ for just one time of use.
If you have really thick and curly hair you should just go natural. But at least dont use wax. I dont care what people say its fucking gross and it doesnt come out of your hair.
I was gonna leave it at that, but then when he said he thought he was gonna use wax i figured i better not take the chance on ruining a possible set of locks.
Sorry for bumping the topic, but i hope Heads get this, because i'm really interested and i want to know if you meant that seriously.
don't listen to these people they don't know anything about dreads, you should use wax. ever happened to you that you ran out of candles? damn it's horrible. well never again, cos you can just cut one of your dreads and use it instead. I mean look on the bright side, they'd smell nice, so nice you'd want to eat them. which reminds me of this dude i once saw on the local news that was eating candles. i know, definitely bad for your health.
^That sounds nice, i'm going to wax the shit out of them now and eat them later! THANKS! Maybe i'll even cook them. Mmm...
I don't want to makie a new topic, but i've got a question. Are rubber bands necessary after i've made dreads? How much do they help? Can i just live without them?
sure, you'll have to pm me your address and stuff. i did use it though.... so, as long as you don't mind using it even though my fingers were in there pm me your info and i can send it out!
some people use rubber bands, some people dont. amybird used them and found them helpful. i never used them, and mine are turning out fine as well... the trick is to use the clear rubber bands though, because the black ones turn to gum in your hair.
No. Rubber bands are as stupid as wax. Just make your dreads and leave them alone. Anything else will just slow down and hinder the progress
The thing is...I can't PM, because i haven't payed for it, i guess i have to pay to get some privileges. My e-mail is dunnox@inbox.lv, send a message there please. Edit: Excuse me if i'll be bumping this topic and asking more questions.
