A little information on me will put this into better perspective. I'm 30 years old and live near Chicago. I grew up in southern Indiana and my mother is a pot head. I don't use this term in a derogatory manor. If you want to use that it's up to you and I don't judge. That being said I personally know at least 50 people that aren't in my family that either smoke pot or have on a regular basis. They didn't try to pressure me because I wasn't interested. I'm for legalization. Why you ask? Well many reasons other than my belief that you should be allowed to fuck up your own body if you want. I'm not for legalizing more hard core drugs only because of dangers to others are more common. Reasons that the government should be for legalization. 1. There are so many users of pot that there is no way you can enforce the laws related to it. 2. You free up billions in tax money used to prosecute and house offenders. 3. The effects of pot are are not hazardous to anyone else if you put usage laws in place. 4. Possesion of it can be controlled. Make it illegal to drive under the influence of it or to smoke it in a public place. Make it illegal to purchase unless you're 21. 5. If it's a commercially made product, you won't find it laced with something in the package. It's safer. 6. You can tax the hell out of it like cigarettes and alcohol. 7. It has health benefits specifically to cancer patients who use it as an appetite stimulant while under chemo. 8. Munchies=increased snack spending and economic benefits. I'm sure this has all been discussed in this forum but thought you'd like a non-smoker's positive take on it.
all except for this. if proctor and gamble got a hold of marijuana and started mass producing it like cigarettes with addictive additives, i would probably quit smoking or grow my own and yea, it would be a good idea to tax it but not to tax the hell out of it
